Tss reloading
« on: January 20, 2021, 04:32:23 PM »
I’m a thinking about getting in to reloading my own shells for obvious reasons but have no experience at all. What would it cost to get all of my materials for reloading as well as the information on the best loads? Any info is appreciated

It’s safe to say you won’t even be able to get all the components until this summer.
Gotta be way ahead in the game these days.

Get ahold of Hal Abbott, buy some shot from him. He will give you a recipe.

If you don't have a drill press you are gonna want one of them. ~$70.
Roll crimp tool ~$30
Hill vise~ $40
Hulls, wads, buffer, cards ect. $50-$100 depending on what load you are loading. Good luck finding some of this now.

Then you are gonna need the tss shot. Talk with whomever you buy it from to get the load you are looking for. They will provide loads for YOU when you buy the shot. Then you can get the rest of the components.

If you can get all the components it looks like you should be able to start for less than $250 plus the cost of the tss.

Not to rain on your parade but your going to be better off to order some apex or fox trot now.  The likelihood of getting all the needed components is slim.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

Bare Minimum
BPI Ballistic Scale 1500 Digital Scale - $30
Roll Crimper – $40
Drill Press - $75

Not Needed But Convenient
Reloading Block - $10
Shell Case 25 Rounds - $4
Shot Dipper - $5
Buffer Dipper - $2
Dental Vibrator - $40
Funnel - $3
BPI Hull Vice - $55

Materials vary depending on what you plan to load. Hal Abbott is a guy who can sell you the shot itself and provide a pressure tested recipe for the load you want to shoot. He'll provide instructions on how to load the shell and details on each individual component you will need.

I just use a cordless drill to roll crimp.  Got my initial shot from Hal and load data, great guy and very helpful.

Loading them is simple and very consistent.
