CZ 1012 with Rob Roberts .660 Invector Plus

Finally got the chance to pattern the new gun today. It's a CZ 1012 that I had shortened (still long barrel at 27") and rethreaded for invector plus. Started with four different loads at 20 and narrowed to two based off those patterns. Wound up shooting a Winchester Long Beard 3" #5 1.75oz and a HEVI 13 3" #7 2oz at 20 and 40 yds. This is shooting off hand with open sights (ghost ring and bead). Here's what I wound up with.

Winchester LB 3" #5 at 20yds

HEVI 13 3" #7 at 20yds

Winchester LB 3" #5 at 40yds (roughly 104 in 10")

HEVI 13 3" #7 at 40yds (roughly 130 in 10")

Most of the LB stayed within 20" at 40yds but the HEVI got pretty wide. Wondering if the choke might be too tight for that load and it's blowing the pattern.  First invector plus gun I've ever owned so I'm interested in hearing thoughts on choke construction. Any advice, recommendations, comments welcomed.

Maybe I am wrong, but that Heavy #7 at 40 is an even pattern, not bad. It has coverage, even though it opened up. What do you think......

I'd hunt the Hevi's, I like even patterns with room for error.

Here's the backs of those papers at 40 so that y'all might can help me. This might help you see how each pattern opened a little better.

Long Beards at 40

HEVI 13 at 40

SumToy I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on whether or not you think opening that choke to say .675 or .680 might actually tighten those 40yd patterns.

Chester, both are good, but I like your 7's at 20, and 40. Just me. I shoot 30 yards average, those 7's will dust them at those ranges, I would welcome that result.....

Thanks so much for the input. I've never been a numbers guy and have always looked more at the shape and density of the pattern. The 10" numbers though for 2oz of HEVI is what made me think it might be blown out. That said, those are the first two shells of HEVI I've ever shot so I don't know much about it at all. Always shot Long Beards and lead.

***side note: Long Beards & Lead would make a fine name for a band or title for a book

Here's the 20s and 40s side by side. HEVI #7s on the left and Long Beard #5s on the right.

The Hevi 7 load has superior pattern performance at both distances, more forgiving at 20 and more even at 40
Off hand , good shooting btw.

Thanks for the help. I'm starting to see what y'all are seeing. I don't think I'm very good at judging patterns, but the HEVIs are noticeably more even and allow for more wiggle room up close. I guess for me ~130 in the 10" at 40 with 2oz of HEVI 13 #7s seems low. Ought to be about 500 pellets in that load. Which it is even, it's just wide. Especially shooting through a .660 invector plus. That's one reason I'm wondering if it's blowing the pattern some and wondering if loosening the choke to say .675 or .680 (as a lot seem to suggest for invector plus guns) might actually tighten that 40yd group.

What I look at on your Hevi #7 40 yard pattern is the pattern outside your kill zone also. If you move a pinch right or left, or he bobs a bit, you have a good concentration all around the kill area. I think it's a forgiving pattern at 40. Just my thoughts. I would definitely use that combo with confidence. Thanks for sharing...

I think that`s a dead turkey.

Both patterns look great but those hevi 7s look like a nice forgiving pattern. I would pick the 7s
