When will shells hit market?
« on: October 03, 2020, 06:03:07 PM »
With COVID going on, this season was weird in that turkey shells just about evaporated from lots of places before April seasons got underway.

But at what point do the usual places (Wal-Mart, Academy, MidwayUSA, Wing Supply, Rogers Sporting Goods) stock themselves full of turkey loads and give decent discounts? February? Just want to get on top of it before all the Federal Grand Slam in the Union is gobbled up by preppers.

I certainly have ammo, but was wanting to pattern something new. Just waiting to see manufacturer rebate deals and full shelves again, and curious when that’ll be.
Might be stocking up on clearance waterfowl loads, at the same time.

you are not going to see any new turkey ammo on the shelves this year unless you're real lucky or stand in line somewhere
it's not the harvest,it's the chase

Bass pro near me has had deliveries of shells every so often and they get gobbled up real quick. I’ve seen the expensive TSS sit there for a little while but the long beards and cheaper stuff is gone in a few days. I shoot LB 3” #6 usually but picked up a box of 5s the other day there just because I could get my hands on them.

While the quantity was certainly not full stock, BP in Clt had several TSS options and LBXR in 12ga and less in 20ga today.

For what i saw today in 2 big gun stores , and the amount of people buying guns, that still has some guns in stock, what new turkey ammo they were receiving was going out the door really fast .. i was in one gun store this morning and there was at least 25 people wanting on back ground checks for new gun purchases

The local Cabela's/Basspro is rationing ammo.  They have a roped off rolling shelf attended by an employee. There is a line to get your 5 box limit.  Usually all they have is .45 ACP, 9mm and some 5.56 Nato. They do have some 16 and 28 gauge small game loads on the shelf.
I don't think we will see stocked shelves and discounts coming this spring.

I truly hope we’re not in a situation where if you need turkey loads, you’ll need a friend to give you some or you’re SOL.

People are taking more than their limits, hiding it around the store for later purchase next day.
Stores are selling at pretty much normal prices. Online ammo and gun shops and gun shows are not .

I've heard that ammo shortage is likely to continue through 2021.

I don't have a lot of supply, but enough to hold me over until it gets back to normal.

That 10 lbs of TSS and related components sitting in the loading cabinet downstairs is looking like a good decision.

5-box limit is pretty generous! Especially if they have tactically-marketed cartridges in stock. Academy has a strict 2-box limit if I recall correctly. My local BPS had a 2-box limit even on shotgun ammo.
