So it would appear that there is a preference for #9's in TSS...

Does anyone that patterns have a 40 yard comparison patterns between #7's, #8's, and #9's?  PLEASE POST THEM UP!

With steel, and with Hevi-shot, larger pellets pattern tighter...  You might not have as high of a pattern density, but a larger percentage of the pellets fired will be within a 30" circle.

I'll say this as well...  I shoot with a bead only...  A long shot for me is 40 yards, in part due to the of not be able to physically pick out a hold point on the bird past that range...  In part due to the excitement and enjoyment level of having a bird in your lap, and in part due to my personal preferences/ethics.  I KNOW I would be tempted to take longer shots with optics due to the improved physical capabilities of doing so, and in part due to the illusion of the bird being closer (due to looking through optics).

So I am looking for a choke/shell combination that gives me some margin for error at 20 yards, and an effective pattern at 40 yards (and hopefully beyond), with reasonable recoil.

Last post by sswv - April 25, 2024, 01:03:35 PM
looking for some choke tubes for my Stevens 301 20ga.  I'm thinking it will accept Winchester, Mossberg, Invector (not plus), NEF/H&R, etc....    I have 20ga Remchokes to swap or cash.  I have some already but always like to try other ones.

thanks in advance

I've always been pretty happy with the seat cushion on my Alps Grandslam vest. It's not a minimalist vest though. I also have a Glenda Green seat and it is nice.

Turkey Hunting Tips ,Strategies & Methods / Re: Gobbler Yelps
Last post by Marc - April 25, 2024, 11:49:54 AM
Anyone have a link  to actual gobblers and jakes yelping?

I have certainly watched jakes yelp, and and seen/heard a tom or two...  But not enough to practice by emmulation as I can with hens...  Listening to, and watching a couple jakes yelp this season, there is a different pitch/tone, and a very different cadence to their yelp.

Watching YouTube videos, it seems that a lot of hunters sound closer to a tom/jake yelp than a hen, and very often they are killin' birds.

If anyone has a video or audio link to actual live toms/jakes yelping, I am sure it would be worth a listen for all of us on the forum!
