Dealt with the aftermath of Florence 2 years ago here in Eastern NC.  Cat 1, 20-25 inches of rain, storm surge, trees down everywhere, loss of power for most and plenty of flooding and home damage.  Laura is going to be way worse with 140 plus winds and 20 foot storm surge.  This Girl is going to leave complete devastation in it's rear view mirror.  My HEART and PRAYERS are with ALL in the path of this storm.

Thanks guys. We are on the east side and gonna get hit pretty good. Expecting 50 to 60 mile an hour winds tornado warnings all over us. Think we are gonna fare ok though.

Living in Eastern N.C. all my life I've seen my share like bbcoach said. FEMA has bailed us out with 3 major checks and we take out flood insurance every year which is a strain in itself, but necessary. I remember the hurricane "eye" go right over our town 3 times and that's pretty weird also. But I will say with the forecast on this monster, well we ain't never seen this in N.C. Folks pray hard for these Souls, and then pray some more. This is a killer....

Looking like my area faired pretty well. I live just SW of Conroe, Tx. I evacuated on Tuesday, but just talked to someone in my neighborhood.

East Texas and Western La is going to be a different story, but I am hearing reports from locals that it was not as bad as predicted. Make no mistake, there will be a large swath of tore up stuff that takes years to recover from.

Well we made it through up here. Power knocked out and dont know when it will be restored. Got the generator humming though. All good. Im about 3 hours Northeast of where it made landfall. Some bad wind and a little rain. I thank GOD it was not another Katrina. Now that was something else.

It was a piece of cake here;  farther west, pretty rough.

Yesterday they called for us to get 70 mph winds with 90 mph gusts as we were on the western edge of the expected track.  Laura veered about 40 miles east of predictions and we got 25 mph winds for a short time and 35 mph gusts.  It only lasted about 3 hours here.  We got lucky, we lost power for a few hours but it was back on before the day heated up.
