So if you could only have one striker to carry for the rest of your life to play on any pot you ever encounter what's the striker? If you got pictures post them. Mine's a production laminate striker from Tom Teasers that came in a set they marketed as "Double Trouble" (one purpleheart and one laminate "constructed of #1 grade black walnut"). I've got some really nice strikers from really nice custom makers in all sorts of woods and this would still be the one. Sadly I've bought other sets trying to find a back up and never found another that plays like this one. This striker would play a window pane or a rock covered in mica. It's my one.
Either Fowler osage snakewood or Clay Townsend persimmon snakewood
My go to is a heavy birch laminate and a close second would be a heavy dymondwood. These 2 play on just about everything from gray slate to aluminum.
I know what I like now but I got two coming, I will let you know then..
Fowler Snakewood/Osage
JLH frogwood or Clay Townsend snakewood/persimmon top
That is going to be a Lyman Walnut or frogwood at this point.

x2
An osage striker a grizzled ol' turkey killer from WV whittled one winter sitting in front of the fireplace. That little striker works perfect on everything.
Fear someday I'll lose it. He's no longer with us, so no replacements.
Not to toot my own horn but I'd use the Gooserbat All Weather Striker. It's a composite, plays at 95% when wet, and sound very good on every surface we've tried.

Fowler Snakewood/Osage
Make that another Fowler osage/snakewood. I`ve about decided Jeff`s Frogwood, which actually is a birch laminate, is running a close second. Lots of excellent striker craftsmen making excellent strikers but Mr. Harold`s o/s is just special for some reason, at least IMHO. If I ever lost it I`d have to quit turkey hunting. Just kidding.....but only a little!

I've yet to find an all weather striker I like. I've got a production composite that came with a call a long time ago, a Woodhaven acrylic, and a David Halloran waterproof striker and all will run, but nothing I love that's for sure. Might have to give one of yours a try.
Clay Townsend bloodwood with a persimmon top or a Derrick Stuckey one piece macassar Ebony. That being said , the 2 I own. A maker can build 10 and each one will sound diffrent. I actually have 4 of Derrick Stuckeys Macassar strikers and three or ok and are picky what they run on. I have one that plays awesome on everything. Wanted to get a back up in case I lost it. Over the years I bought 3 and none will hold a candle to the first one I got from him.

Absolutely!
I would be stuck between 4 and would not know which to chose, here they are in no particular order.
David Halloran Ipe
JLH Frogwood
Neal Herman's Dymondwood
Stuckey Tulipwood
I just started to use Perssimmon this year and am really liking those as well as Black Locust.

Woodhaven laminate birch
Probably a birch laminate that a friend made for me. It works on about everything.
I have a Tulipwood that works on 90% of surfaces that I've tried it on.
Of all of the ones that I have run, if I had to pick one it would be my Macassar ebony from Neal. I've yet to find a call that it doesn't make sound good.
I love halloran strikers
Pete Peters dymond wood flared tip. I've used it for 20 years or so. It works on nearly any call surface. I left it in the woods once and drove 140 miles round trip to retrive it.
Just got one of JLH'S new "Bullfrog" strikers. It definitely talks turkey on every call I've ran it across so far! :z-winnersmiley:

Now that's showing some LOVE.. :icon_thumright:
Anything dymondwood. Also, make it a thin striker. Love the realism from the dense woods.
I'll take a hickory striker over most any.
I'm a pot call guy. With that being said, I have plenty of different strikers from different call makers. Since most have given HIGH praise for Jeff Harrison's Frogwood, I contacted Jeff a couple weeks ago and received one of his Emerald Isle Frogwood laminated birch strikers recently. I put the striker through it's paces this week on slate, crystal, ceramic and aluminum and it performed flawlessly. The sound was Great and the rollover was perfect, on all surfaces. I called Jeff and talked turkey, golf and family for about 30 minutes on Wednesday night. Great guy and GREAT striker. I've found my new #1 striker. So much so, another Frogwood is in the works.

I'm absolutely with you and that was the sole purpose of me posing the question: try to see what showed up more than any other with the hope being it was someone I didn't have. I didn't own any JLH strikers. I ordered one of his new bullfrog strikers and have been blown away by it. I'll be getting one of his regular frogwoods as well as one of his "dirty hickory" strikers.
When I talked with Jeff on Wednesday, he told me he has only been in the part time striker turning business a little over a year. I told him he definitely has a WINNER with that laminated birch Frogwood striker. He was very appreciative of All the kind words and orders he received last year from the people on this site.

That`s for sure. It`ll be with me in the woods next year.
Based on the comments here, I have a weighted frogwood striker on order from Jeff. Anxious to add another of Jeff's to my striker collection. Pure turkey. :icon_thumright:
Yeah just recieved my Bullfrog, Tulipwood and Walnut from him. So far I have the Frogwood, Bloodwood, Macassar Ebony, Weighted Hickory, bullfrog, tulipwood and Walnut. All are great the walnut is great on Slate, if you are looking for a striker for a slate call I recommend it.

Agree on the walnut. I had a Tuscarora Legend walnut striker that ran slate like magic. Lost that during a fall turkey hunt, but since acquired one Jeff's heavy cedar, and it would be that walnut's equal. Love that cedar striker.
Black locust is a great all around wood

You can message him here on OG, he goes by JLH.
Look up JLH strikers via internet. Check his Facebook page. Or his cell 301 514-7528. Call or text him.
Would like to thank you guys for spending my money. Now have a Fowler Osage/Snakewood and a JLH Frogwood both on their way. I now have visions of me crawling around in the woods after I lost one....
Walked 2 extra miles this Spring to locate one of Jeff's frogwood strikers. It was a sunny and cool day so it wasn't all bad. Luckily found it at the base of tree without much trouble.

That's two all world strikers. I have them both. Where on earth did you find the Fowler? You really don't need any more than those two IMO.

Well lets just say I guess I have a problem, I have 4 elk bugle tubes. Don't need 4 but it took that many for me to be able to every vocalization a bull elk makes.
Nothing wrong with back-ups for back-ups. :funnyturkey:
