Mark calls it his "mellow slate" call. Here's an OG topic about it in 2019: http://oldgobbler.com/Forum/index.php?topic=86833.15 I roughed up about a square inch on the back with scotchbrite and that produces another mellow yelp. It comes with a nice pouch and I'll include another striker I like to use on the back (made by one of my hunting buddies). It's a good deal at $50
TYD.
A great call for this spring season.
Am I confused, I have several of his calls some double siders and some not. You said you roughed it up on the back. But this isn't a double sided call.
I roughed up the wood. It sounds very good and I used it for close in work on a few gobblers that way. It's a very good call with either side and my only reason for selling is I have 2 of them. And it's time, at 74, to downsize my call collection.
Gotcha makes sense now.
I don't see the rough spot on the caller but i tried it on a call one time with out roughing it up and had it sounding good.
