Title: Let's see them Pumps
Post by: nchuntn on May 01, 2020, 07:31:33 PM
Let's show off some pump Turkey guns. I will post a picture of mine when I find one. I have a stock Mossberg 835 Turkey with 24in barrel. I use this gun for everything. Haven't had any trouble out of this gun and patterns great.

Only picture I have of this one.
It's an older than me (I'm 39) 870 Wingmaster 20 gauge with a fixed modified barrel.

Just picked up an 835 this year to be a dedicated turkey gun, but no pictures.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210130/05c118f8f71c1b55ea8641796baeabb7.jpg)

Tell me more about this 510 mini.

I've been eyeing this lately and think it has the potential to be a fun little turkey gun. Any drawbacks to the 18.5 inch barrel? How much weight does the magpul stock add?

Thanks!  That is a fresh paint job, I usually repaint and change it up every couple of years just to pass time waiting on turkey season

I really like that little gun!  The bad - it doesn't seem to be quite as well built as the 500's for whatever reason.  It seems a little clunky, but I can work with clunky.  The main reason that I say that its clunky is that the forend slightly rubs on the receiver when pumped.  I've been on the lookout for another forend that fits the little gun that doesn't rub, but I haven't found anything yet.  It is definitely a fun gun and I prefer to carry it over the 12.  There are no drawbacks that I've found to the short barrel other than maybe it doesn't like to be choked too hard, that .568 is perfect, .555 is very blown.  It will hold a killing pattern with TSS farther than you'd want to shoot one.  That magpul stock is rather heavy for a stock, I think I weighed it at a pound and a half off the gun.  It puts the balance point directly under the sight, but makes it nice when its up on a knee.  I just threw the gun on my scale and as it sits with the sight on it it is 5 lbs 15 oz, so still a sub 6 pound gun.  The overall length from the tip of choke to the end of the pad, with 2 spacers installed, is just a hair under 38" so you can setup in the thick stuff no problem.  Just holler if you have any more questions!

Have my old 20 wingmaster mag at gunsmith getting barrel cut and threaded for tubes. I'll post that up when I get it back. Hopefully before the season starts!

Best guess is it was about 10 years old, original factory camo. The black forend was added because I liked that shurshot style more than the original. New dip is new bottomland.

I do most all of my turkey hunting with a pump (870s, 535, 835). For classics a '53 Winchester model 1897, 30 in fixed full.

The second is the wife's youth 20ga 870 with a Buris FF3. It's kind of become my new turkey gun though.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210218/20403a9254b6e72340297f840e0984f3.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210218/dbdd19a6b34184bba41d2a9a76a86b79.jpg)

Nice picture with the pumps and gobblers.

Also, I love the username. I'm a big fan of The Goonies. I've probably watched it 25 times.

I do most all of my turkey hunting with a pump (870s, 535, 835). For classics a '53 Winchester model 1897, 30 in fixed full.

You might the only person ever got the reference. First metal surface call I ever had was a Wendell Rye osage copper and I called it Chester Copperpot. Super soft tree calling birds off the limb, that pot's been a pure killer.

That's funny, I'm the same way with that reference. I often refer to my coffee maker as "Chester Coffee Pot"...my wife just shakes her head.

2 Winchester 1300's, the NWTF laminated vent rib, and tha NWTF laminated Buck & Beard Model. And my latest find, Original Bottomland 870 from 1992. Be safe

Is this an actual pattern that was offered in 1992? I have a 1992 870 Wingmaster that my dad bought for me back then and I gave it a paint job myself and regretted it. I want to bring it back to life and find a pattern that was offered back then. The gun is in excellent shape just looks like crap now lol.

Yes my fiend, that is the original bottomland pattern offered in 1992. I believe it is out again, but does not quite look the same to me. Good luck...be safe...

Good to know. I was holding this gun before and it brought me back to my younger days duck hunting. I don't hunt waterfowl much anymore so another turkey gun won't hurt. Thanks!
