I'm getting one of these eventually, but right now I don't have the money to spend—I might pull the trigger on post-season clearance.
In the meantime, any ideas on what to keep my box call and pot + 2 strikers in, so I can at least protect them from everything else in my bag?
I've heard of sticking boxes in bread bags to prevent them from getting wet, but that's it.

Contact Yelpy or Glenda Green here, they both make very good products that are well spoken of. I have one of Glenda's cases for trumpet calls and it is very nice. Here is Glenda's trumpet pouch. I have 2 of the same satchel , and i will never use vest again.. that satchel is not near as hot as vest either.

I switched when I went to gobble lounger style chair. I am getting old and I can sit comfortable in chair for hours where I could not with vest/cushion
The satchel is quality and holds as much as you want to put in it. It's light and I can carry it and chair and it's not any worse than a loaded out vest

I have one of Glenda Greens Satchels ordered. I received an e-mail from her last night that she is working on a batch of them this week and they will be finished Friday. I am excited to try one as an alternate to my vest.
I got one of her smaller ones this year to use with my turkey lounger and liked it so much I haven't warn my vest at all this year. I can carry everything I really need in the small one and don't miss or really need the other stuff.
I found this picture on my computer of some of her other things, again I am not sure if the prices are current. First is the minimalist Satchel second will be the full sized version.
It'd be nice to not have to bring a backpack and a decoy bag, but put all that stuff into a satchel.
So far all my decoys are collapsible foam or inflatable, so a pair of hens would fit easily in the big one.

I know I want to get a striker pouch from her, every time I get ready to buy from here something happens on my end, I was going to get one this month and my doc say I need to get tested for my meds, there went $100 for the visit and no striker roll up. >:(

This discussion reminded me I have an old woodland camo messenger bag I used to use daily in high school. It isn't made for turkey hunting, but it just might do the trick with some small alterations. Used to have magnetic fasteners—might cut those off to reduce noise.

It's a lot easier to deal with than a vest , it's not hot like a vest , with a vest , it's so hard finding the right one that fits. With Glenda Green satchel your getting a waterproof heavy duty satchel that's made in the USA.

I picked one of these up this year and I won't go back to the vest. It holds everything I need. Much lighter than a loaded vest plus it hold everything right where you need it, especially strikers and pot calls.

I have used ziplock bags for pot calls, bread sacks for box calls in a pinch. I also have my pot calls in cuzie's or a sock to keep them from banging around in my vest. If I know it's going to be wet I carry only waterproof pots and I tend to leave my box calls at home. A back pack or any kind of bag would work to carry your stuff in until you get what you are looking for
I received My Glenda Green Satchel today. I am blown away by how nice this is and well thought out it is. She also threw in a leather pot call holder, which was a pleasant surprise. It's going to be pushing the 80 degree mark this week in GA and it will be nice to be toting this instead of wearing the hot vest.
I don't use decoys but I bought a 20 some dollar Allen fanny pack that does fine and dandy for me. My old turkey vest is now retired. It is in rough shape. I did cut the seat off of it and used a small carabiner and attached it to the fanny pack. It is cheap and works for me.
Honestly, what someone needs to carry their stuff really depends on the type of hunting they do. For me personally, it is not unusual for me to put in 5 to 10 miles a day looking for a receptive gobbler. Over the years, I have determined that the best accessory for that is a plain-old "daypack-type" backpack. Plenty of storage spaces and compartments for carrying the "stuff" I will need on my hikes,...and without everything flopping/banging around on my waist, legs, and chest as I am trying to cover ground.
That's not to say that there isn't a time and place for a vest, satchel/purse, or other contraption, but there are definitely conditions where carrying one of those items is going to inhibit your ability to get where you need to get to kill a gobbler. Moral of my story: Be prepared for the conditions under which you will be hunting.
What do those of you who use something other than a vest use for a seat? I've got a MidwayUSA inflatable pad that buckles around the waist. It's great, but there's a definite limit to how long you can sit comfortably at the base of a tree.
