Title: My season starts tomorrow!!
Post by: RutnNStrutn on March 26, 2020, 09:33:30 PM
Well, despite not getting drawn for any hunts in Florida, my season is starting tomorrow anyway. No, I'm not a poacher. :D
A friend of mine got drawn and invited me to be his guest. So we're going to a WMA that I've hunted for years, and killed many a gobbler at.
I should be in bed already, but between my insomnia from 34 years on the job, and tomorrow being my first day hunting this spring, I'm wide awake!!
Wish me luck brothers!! The odds are long, but I have high hopes!!

Strike 1. LOL!!
Birds were tight beaked on this foggy AM. I only heard 1 distant gobbler sound off twice. No shots on the WMA. Will try again tomorrow.

Well, I wish I had something good to report, but I don't. Weather was foggy in the AM's, limiting gobbling, and keeping the birds up in the trees late. Then when the fog burned off, the birds quickly disappeared into the swamps to stay cool, as the temps soared into the mid 90's. It's felt more like summer than spring down here in FLA. The lack of turkey action made the public land Wally's get bored even earlier than the normally do, so they hopped in their trucks and drove up and down the roads, spooking the few birds that were around.
Cool front arriving this week. If I don't get drawn for a hunt in FLA, and I don't get locked up at home by a mandatory Coronapanic quarantine, I'm probably going to head north and try out the SC birds. I had high hopes for this season but Corona shot a hole in that. ::) As it stands now, I'll be happy to just get one gobbler somewhere.
On the bright side, I'm already working on plans for a turkey extravaganza for next year to make up for this year's :TrainWreck1:
