Bill Lyman makes a great striker no matter what the wood. I have a mac ebony of his and it's very nice

A Stuckey Mac Ebony is my favorite striker, that is high praise considering the amount I own
Ebony striker is pretty good , but if i had my choice it would be snakewood striker ... Ebony in my opinion give little squeal on most surfaces doesn't hold good grip , were the snakewood doesn't....

I have several Stuckey strikers and like the majority of them, funny thing is the only ones I do not really like so far are Jotoba and Mac Ebony.
I would also highly suggest JHL here, he makes some great strikers and is great to deal with. I think Tulipwood is better than Mac Ebony myself on every surface I have tried them on.
I would also add Neal but I do not know if he does Mac Ebony or not.

Alright y'alls successfully talked me out of the mac ebony ???? I'm new to the special strikers, iv had ipe and lacewood but other than that just the standard ones. Thanks for all the info that's killer

Get with JLH on the forum and get you good snakewood striker , you will be happy with that striker and you can play it on most anything with great success .. JLH Strikers is on facebook also...
Macassar is my favorite striker on glass and crystal. I always have one in the vest and its the first striker on those surfaces everytime.

Here is an ebay link to Stuckey's striker. Spittin & Drummin turned me on to this one a few years back and like he said, it sounds great on any glass or crystal.

The mac ebony striker I have had the most consistent sound out of is an old Halloran 2 pc mac ebony. Runs on glass and crystal calls the best imo. Was never a big snakewood fan. It does look very nice but I don't feel I have the control with it like I do mac ebony.
Just traded for a Fowler Mac Ebony with Persimmon top, very excited to try it!

I've gotten that squeak or squeal with my Mac ebony as well. I have found it to be a bit more temperamental then most of my other woods(strikers). With a lot of practice I've found the window (proper striker angle and pressure) to be quite narrow in avoiding that sound. Even then it plays quite high with minimal rasp.. I don't know if I like the sound, but I will play it this spring and let the turkeys decide. But my experience is limited with only one Mac ebony and two glass calls and one crystal. I don't have a snake.
I agree with Sir Diealot, Tulipwood all the way for me, I think it sounds better and is more forgiving. Bill Lyman or Fred Cox. I bet a Stuckey would sound great as well.

I'm not sure who made it, it came In a box with several others, but it was a very soft calling striker. That's what I meant by soft.
Wow. I have at least 8 macassar strikers and all of them grip great and mine only squeal when I squeeze the striker too hard. Mine run great and sound the best to me on all my glass and crystal. Goes to show different flavors for diffrent folks.

I definitely think two strikers made from the same wood can be different. While I thnk his snakewood may be the best striker I own, and he`s an all time great striker craftsman, I for some reason have a problem consistently running my Fowler two piece walnut/tulipwood on my aluminum and crystal calls. My JLH one piece tulipwood, on the other hand, is great on both.
I have a Halloran one piece Mac ebony striker that is great on a Halloran ceramic. It really stand out on that call
I love my Stuckey mac ebony. Great on glass, crystal and my green slate. Probably my favorite all around striker. I do scotch brite it more often than my other strikers and like my diamondwoods it does have a sweet spot.
I ordered a halloran 1 piece mac ebony last week but a good tulipwood is next in line!

Just got a one piece tulip from Jeff Harrison ( JLH on OG ). Plays REALLY nice on my Crystal Mistress and aluminum call from Al Holbert ( Enticer ).

I have stayed out of this thread...i didnt want to "sell" anyone.
I will say this about macassar.
I can buy a board, (most are small) after you cut it into blanks, maybe 3 to 5....out of those 5 blanks, more often than not , ill get a striker that is "dead" sounding.
That "dead" striker is a $20.+ piece of wood that is worthless as a striker....
Macassar does this more than any other wood i have.
Now, not all the boards i buy are like this, and i canntell immediately if its a stinker! just saying there can possibly be some "duds" out there from other guys.
If you have good macassar, that is super dry, it make a very good striker! It should grip well, and play on most surfaces.
I will guarantee anything i sell, if it doesnt play for you, let me know!
Also....there's a few other woods in that hardness and density range that will perform the same.

Had 2 mac ebony pegs from a call supply place that did exactly what Jeff described as being dead. They sounded like a red cedar striker when all was said and done.
I used my Halloran 2 pc striker as my "jig". I weighed both the tops and the pegs to 24 grams total, balanced them out by length.....everything. Glued them up.....nada! Gorgeous grain as well. All for nothing. Even tried thinning down 1 of the pegs near the tip to help them sing a tad. Still nothing.
Well all I can say is if you get your hands on a good one , it will go straight in your vest.

I like a good Macassar striker, it provides a different sound and is just another arrow in the quiver. I have a few different ones by different call makers. I will say that this year that I will be carrying Jeff Harrison's. After buying a few strikers from him last year, I had him make me several different ones for me for this season. The way this works for me now is I call Jeff and just ask what else I should get, he tells some wood I have never heard of, I get it and it sounds awesome. Great guy to work with that I can not speak highly enough of.

Golfer Nash suggested it to me a few years ago.
I only run one pot these days, most of the time I don't carry one. But my three favorite strikers were all Mac Ebony
