Title: College football
Post by: Big Guy on August 31, 2019, 02:32:15 PM
So one of my favorite time of the year is upon us.  College football season is here!  I love my Iowa Hawkeyes and think it's setting up to be a fairly good year.  OL and DL look to be good and that's usually what opens everything else up for Iowa, it all starts with the guys in the trenches.  Skill positions are usually the question marks and this year is no different.  Talented but unproven WR.  Find out how they look tonight!  Can't wait!

So who do you follow?  Give me a scouting report.

Not a lot to hang your hat on if you are a Hog fan.

So far my impressions are Bama is beatable and Clemson looks like the Natty is there's. Of course lots change after week one. I know this, a loss to Ole Miss is gonna be embarrassing after seeing the get beat by Memphis today.

Is it April yet?

Same here. It's kind of weird for an Iowa guy to be a Bama fan. I remember watching them play on New Years day when I was 8-9 years old(about 50 yrs ago) and have liked them ever since. I have always kept track how they were doing, but didn't really start following them until about 20 years ago... this internet thing has made it a lot easier.

Go GATORS!

Aside from turkey season, college football season is my favorite season. Been a good opening weekend. Tennessee, FSU, and Miami all loosing, great week to be a Gator fan though we looked rough. Bottom of the SEC looked rough. Auburn comeback was a great game. Clemson didn't miss a beat. UCF may go unbeaten again. Notre Dame is not looking good right now, better keep an eye on this game.

A&M is going to have their hands full next week. Looking forward to that LSU Texas game.

Ugh Florida!  No offense but I will always hate Florida for the 2006 Outback Bowl against Iowa and the worst officiated game I have EVER seen.  If we didn't play so bad to start the game we wouldn't have been in such a hole and I'm not usually one to blame referees for a loss, but that game was atrocious

His seat should melt his behind at this point. The 2nd half meltdown vs. Boise St. was a disaster. He looked totally lost on the sideline. I hope he turns it around but I just don't see him being the guy to do it at this point. I think if he loses 1 more that he's supposed to win that his time in Tallahassee is over.

Yes that's going to be a tough one. I really hope we can get arguably our best pass rusher in Zuniga back. D Line has been elite without him but he can only make it better. Burrow vs our DBs should be fun to watch. The Heisman voters will be closely watching that match-up. Trask has got to develop his pocket presence and protect the ball. Happy to see him not throw any INTs but those three fumbles were miserable to watch. I don't see us beating LSU with 4 turn overs again. Another game Mullen is not favored to win so we will see what happens.

No offense, but I'm glad y'all don't!! ;) I'm sure Mullen will be the head coach at UF for a long time to come. While I'd love to keep Grantham, it's hard to keep a quality coach like him in assistant status forever.

No offense taken, Arkansas is not likely to attract a big name coach unless Uncle Jerry breaks open his checkbook. It's how Morris ended up as Head Hog and never beat a P5 opponent.

You guys are fortunate to have Grantham. I think he was about to end up in the NFL last year. As for Mullen, unless he has some kind of scandal I think he's likely to retire there.

Big game against my Hawkeyes tonight.  Iowa always seems to play PSU tough, and Kinnick at night is a difficult environment.  I just hope we don't lay an egg like we did last week.  If I was PSU I'd blitz until Iowa can show they know how to pick it up!

That could be one cold game. 40* at game time with 20-30 mph winds. Hopefully the wind will start to die down by then.

Well Iowa barely survives against a bad Purdue team.  They're just not a real good team.  They'll still get their 8 wins and Ferentz will coach yet another year.

Shockingly Wisconsin loses to Illinois and leaves the B1G West up for grabs.  I honestly thought they had it locked up.  They had looked really good all year.  Goes to show you can't overlook anyone in conference play.
