I was just wondering if any of you could suggest any of the electric grinders sold by Cabella's or Bass Pro Shops? It is mainly being purchased to make cookies but may likely get used for meat. I am going to be buying gift certificates every month until Oct. or Nov. and then using them to buy the grinder.

The cookies are a old family recipe for Cuccidati's which are an Italian Fig Date cookie with nuts, candied fruit and other things in it. I have no opinions about grinders, but those cookies look delicious.

Friends of mine have the Cabelas small grinders and have had no complaints.  I have the grinder attachment for a kitchenaid mixer and it works great for everything I need it to do, and doesn't take up the space of a separate grinder.  If you have or need a mixer, that might be a good option since you're making cookies.

I use mine to grind turkey, goose, duck and a bit of deer every now and then.  Not sure I'd want to use it for a whole deer because the feed is small.

I have had a cabelas 1hp grinder for at least ten years now. I would guess i have done the burger and sausage from at least 60-70 deer by now.
It was made by Weston and so far not a hiccup. Not sure if Weston still makes them for cabelas but it is solid.

Never used the Cabelas grinder but the LEM Big Bite Grinder series is the best I have personally used.

I've owned the Cabelas 1 hp grinder for 10-12 years and I have never had a hiccup with it. I got the 1HP model after burning up a smaller Cabelas model. I was credited the price i paid for the lesser one and added the money for the bigger model.

I go on a couple of doe shooting trips a year to help out a farmer and between 2-3 of us, we routinely kill 10-15 deer for the trip and the grinder handles that load as fast as you can put the meat through. Same with hogs, it won't bog it down at all.

Now, the one I own would be way overkill for making cookies. The lesser HP grinders would be more than enough

Mine is the 3/4hp model.  10+ years no issues.  6-7 deer a year. 

I have the Cabela's Carnivore 3/4 hp grinder and love it.  It's worked great for deer, antelope and elk.  The option to add attachments are great.  So far, we have the jerky slicer (just made 4 lbs. to take turkey hunting next week) and the fruit juicer for apple sauce and the fall garden harvest.

Like chcltlabz, I had used the KitchenAid attachment before getting the Cabela's one.  I also thought the KitchenAid worked fine but was much slower.  I think one of my favorite things about the Cabela's one is that the pieces are metal and seem to clean up easier.

Get the cuber attachment, the cubed deer, hog, etc is perfect

I also have the 3/4 horse and it's a beast of a machine. No issues at all.

I have seen those nicer more expensive models but they are just completely out of my price range, I really would like to have one that you can add all the attachments to but the financial reality is I simply can't afford those units.

Hand crank grinder won't fail you SirDie...Then you can really say you put some Love into them...Lol..probably some sweat too. ;D

They are very good, this will be my first year making them on my own, we made anise cookies and chocolate rum balls last year which we also grew up on and really enjoyed that. We are already starting to buy ingredients and store them away for this year.

Speaking of hand crank grinders. Before I got my cabelas grinder I used a hand crank grinder. Only I took the handle off and attached a 1/2 Milwaukee drill to it.

I remember my father doing it every year with a hand cranked grinder and working the dates and figs would get his hands hurting and he was a big strong man, he play DT for part of a season with the NY Giants. Used to make ground bologna with it too, many that stuff was great.
