Title: What striker do I need.
Post by: scoffman1 on March 19, 2019, 07:28:23 PM
I'm relativity new to Turkey Hunting and I have the gun and vests sewed up. I have some calls that has been passed to me. One of them is this Cody call. I don't have a striker. What can you recommend?  I'm a pretty sentimental guy and like to use what someone has used effectively and passed on to others. Here's a picture of the call.
Thanks in advance.

Awesome. I bet that call have some kills on it for sure. I would try a purple heart, tulipwood, and/ or a dymondwood to start with. Thats a good 'un so good luck with it.

Cody sends all their calls out with a hickory striker for a good reason.  It flat works, can't go wrong with that.

I agree. I run a Cody heavy hickory more than any other striker on everything!!

Great Guys on this site!!!!!!  When you get your strikers, try them on the call but it looks as if the surface isn't conditioned enough.  Give them a go and if the sound isn't what you think it should be, then get back to us.  A good scuffing with a conditioning stone or drywall screen should bring out the sound in the Cody glass.

Guys I received the first round of generosity today and they all sound wonderful. Well wonderful to me just hope ol Tom thinks so as well. Lol.
I'm in complete awe with this site. The folks here have been so knowledgeable and I have worn some out with PMs. I crave the knowledge and ppl have been so good to me. I promise I will pay the good gesture forward to someone else. I'm a late bloomer at 45 in this game as I focused my whole life on archery and gun hunting deer. But the turkey sport has me all giddy.

Thank you for this. I will try that. It's kind of scuffed but not all on the surface. Mainly middle.

I was thinking the same thing about how it was conditioned.. No matter the striker it will need a good conditioning... Here is an example of a crystal call and the placement and depth of how I condition it..

All you need is a conditioning stone plenty of guys sell them.. Average cost is around 7$ It's really simple just back and forth in  one direction.

Course drywall screen works well too.  I use 120 grit and I always have a piece in my vest for quick touch ups.
