Title: Favorite persimmon striker
Post by: BTH on February 26, 2019, 02:02:31 PM
Have had the Fowler, Halloran, Stuckey and Hooks. Didn't really like the fit and/or balance of them. Stuckey being the best for me out of all of those. Would like to find a Lyman in persimmon since the rest of his work with my big clumsy hands.

Any others y'all like to run?

As someone already mentioned Kevin Farr (Pecker Wrecker) had some at Nashville that ran very well, I'm sure he has some available.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Will see Kevin this wknd at the Deer Classic. I have been wanting to look and run Mclain's too. JLH is not making a persimmon just yet but keeping my fingers crossed. Will look at Wendll's as well. Gary is hard to find while searching on the net. Not giving up yet though. Yep,  Lyman would fit the bill and the hand LOL.

I have a persimmon from Glen Marrer that I really like.  Seems to run well on a lot of my pots.

Persimmon is my personal favorite wood for a striker. I've got'm by a bunch of different high end call makers. My advice would be to give Lee Chadwick (Misfire Game Calls) a call.

Thanks guys. Got a Fred Cox persimmon I really like after the recommendations here. Will be keeping an eye open for a backup Lyman persimmon.

I have a persimmon that is one of my favorites, turkey like it too! Had it for years, but no idea who it came from. Has KC burned into the top. Runs on anything and just feels right. Birds come to see what is making the pretty sounds.

I just got one from Matt McLain that I really like. I also have one from Neal Herman(same as Hooks but flared tip)that tones the rasp down on any pot I play it on. It's always with me in the woods.

I have yet to have one but would very much like to get one from Stuckey in a mushroom tip. I was talking with a member today and he said Lyman also does a mushroom tip like the Stuckey so I would like to try one of his as well. I have two other strikers from other makers with the mushroom tip that I like very much, one is a David Halloran and the other is from Bill Travis
