Title: Help me with options for 870 and red dot
Post by: dimecovers3 on February 03, 2019, 10:49:47 PM
First post

I have a 3" camo 870 with a 26" vent rib barrel. It has a mid bead and white front bead.  I've killed 13 gobblers with over the years but I've also missed three times.  Every year I say I'm going to do something about it and get a red dot.  I don't have a local gunsmith to drill and tap and I'm a little leary shipping it off or having someone screw up the job.  I was looking at the Burris FFIII and don't  know the best way to mount it.  I use this gun for ducks so I want to be able to take off the mount and sight easily.  Are the Aimtech rib mounts a solid option?  Will I be able to see the sight with the regular stock or will I have to add a comb build up to get a good check weld? Also why do they make one and two piece mounts?

Although the one piece mounts are still on their website, Aimtech now only offers the 2 piece mount.  And yes,  they are very sturdy.  Just butt them up against each other when you mount them and attach your red dot.  You'll need Model #RRLD2.

Is one mount too small to hold the FF3?  Do they still make the one piece see thru mount?

I've been trying to figure out the same issue. I have a b-square saddle mount but I don't trust it to stay put. What mounting option did you wind up going with?

Send your receiver to William at Sumtoy Customs & let him drill & tap it. He does good work & won't screw it up. He did my 870 a few years ago. Best money I ever spent.

I believe it was $30.00 for the drill & tap. Seems like it was around $50.00 with the shipping. It may be more now since that was about 5 years ago.
