I know call makers match strikers with their calls. I am looking for hunters input.

Ebony, Bloodwood and Walnut strikers with a Holly sound board sound good to me.
-
I matched a purpleheart to my holly soundboard scratcher from SS

If you have a particular scratcher already and you're looking for a certain sound, I'd call the maker and ask him.
If you're asking because you're buying one, see above.
There are so many variables that you'll make yourself crazy trying to figure it out. Generally harder woods are higher pitched and softer, lower but the combinations and designs can throw that off some also.

Well stated

Not to make it more complicated, but after the choice of wood generally the striker needs to be tuned to the scratcher by way of size/shape.

Thanks for the input. I plan to discuss with the callmaker. Thru this site I have aquired 4 holly sound board scratch boxes from the same callmaker in different wood combo's mainly because they were part of a 2-3 call package deal. I am looking for a little different pitch out of a few of them instead of selling/trading.

I wish I could remember what mine are. I got extras from SS and I think one was limba, I’m sorry but I can’t remember other. They sound fantastic though

I think you can run Walnut on just about anything and get a great sound. Cedar plays great also and gives a different sound, and I’d give Persimmon, Black Locust and Osage a try. Can’t go wrong with any of those.
