Title: Weatherby SA08 and Mossberg SA20
Post by: aclawrence on January 13, 2019, 06:54:30 PM
Hey guys, what's y'alls thoughts on these shotguns?  I'm looking at the compact versions.  I also have a friend whose wife is shooting a Tri Star that also looks pretty similar but I don't know anything about it.

I have to Turkey thug SA20, I think it is going to be a sweet turkey getter.  I didn't use the supplied picatinny rail, used a Sumtoy mount with my FF2.  Going to run an Indian Creek .562 or .555.

I bought the wife a SA20 compact a couple of years ago. I had it drilled & tapped to mount a Vortex Venom. Also had Kick-Eze recoil pad installed. It's a great little gun and have been thinking of getting one for myself. I can't remember which choke she is using. It's either a Carlson .570 or Hevi-13(.573?) She is shooting 3" LongBeard 6's. She is not very experienced with shooting so I wanted a more open pattern for her at closer ranges. At 15yds. she has about a vollyball size pattern and at 35yds. it's a solid, even pattern. At 37yds it's starting to get a little thin, but it would still kill a bird.

The only issues are it doesn't like to eject light trap loads, but it only has about 3 boxes of shells through it. It has gotten better the more it has been shot.

Does the SA 20 accept standard mossberg chokes or are they threaded differently?

One thing I wish I could find is a weatherby pistol grip to go on my sa20.  The sa20 seem to be a nice little gun and very similar to the weatherby.  They are some good shooting little guns.

I have the Mossberg SA 20 Turkey thug and the Tri Star raptor youth model. I have killed turkeys with both and they are both great shooting guns! They are very similar in their build and both guns are made in Turkey ,as a matter of fact they use the same choke tubes! When you take them apart they look just alike , both have chrome lined barrels. The Mossberg SA 20 Turkey comes drilled and tapped , fiber optic sights and a rail for a scope., the Tri star does not but has a place for a dovetail mount. I bought sun optics adapter sm 7015 and it works perfect if you want a scope of some sort. Tri star sells a camo forearm and stock edition only at Walmart. That is where I got mine. Both are great guns for the money and a Carlson's ,575 turkey choke and #9 federal Tss is impressive out of either! I will try to post a picture of them side by side when I figure out how! One thing to keep in mind I have the model 75782 which has turkey thug written on the side. The new model # is 75790 and the word thug has been dropped! I don't think however much has changed except the model number and the word thug being removed!

I have the sa20 turkey thug with a Burris ff111 and sumtoy choke. Kills them dead. Don't know how far as my kills have been within 25. (Swamp hunting)
