Not good, I worry about ticks as it is because I have no spleen and get sick very easily.

The CDC confirmed on Friday the Asian longhorned tick has been spotted in nine states including New York.
New Jersey was the first state to report the tick on a sheep in August 2017. Since then, Arkansas, Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia have reported finding the tick on a people, wildlife, domestic animals and in environmental samples, officials say.
"The problems are getting worse and worse," CDC Director of Division of Vector-Borne Diseases Lyle Petersen said according to the Washington Post. "We're losing this battle."

I am going to have to learn how to use permethrin, I have never used anything but Backwoods Off. I also have to get a Thermacell before this Spring.

Buy some Sawyers at Walmart. Spray your gear before the season hang to dry and spray again halfway through. I wear latex gloves when I spray just to keep it off my hands.
X2 the Sawyers. I mentioned this before but I had an old piece of Mossyoak fabric that I doubled over an had sewn together to make a piece about 3 foot square I soak it down with permithrin and when dry I keep it in a gallon ziploc bag. I throw it down before I sit, it also makes a dry place to lay pot calls etc. when the ground is wet. Very little chance a tick will crawl all over the cloth covered in permithrin to get to you. I never wash the cloth so the permithrin lasts longer and it weighs almost nothing and takes up little room in my vest. I've hunted some tick infested areas without getting any on me by treating clothes and the cloth.
Another vote for "Sawyer" Permetherin big time. It's hands down the best available on the market, but is pretty toxic stuff so minimal skin contact is recommended.
In my experience, wearing Lacrosse rubber hip boots also have been a huge deterrent of ticks as well. I don't know if the rubber holds permetherin better or something, but they definitely have made a noticeable difference for me on the tick side. It also is good from keeping that tall, wet grass from soaking your pants, and it probably helps prevent ticks hopping onto them as well.

I specifically said treat clothes and ground cloth. I use a higher concentration of permithrin on the cloth you can buy it from feed stores probably not safe to put it directly on clothes that touch your skin, as mentioned permithrin is a poison.

No not at all. Permethrin is the active ingredient in most dog dips. It kills ticks and fleas and is used a lot to keep fleas and ticks at bay on dogs. Most dog shampoos have permethrin in them as well.

This is the stuff I use. A quart last a couple years for me doing both mine & wifes hunting and hiking clothes. When we go on vacation, I spray down our luggage with it, just in case the hotel we are staying in would have bedbugs.

I will look into it at Tractor Supply, I have a membership there to their Good Neighbors Club or whatever they call it. I buy a lot of clothes there too.

I personally have never used it on blinds but some have without problems. Martins from whoever you get it from is perfect. Take the cap off the left side, fill up the measuring device which is 1 ounce, add 20 ounces of water in a spray bottle and enjoy a tick free life.

Yes...use this to make the mix. If I remember right, I mix 1 oz. of the concentrate with 19 oz of water....I would have to look at the label to be sure. It will work just fine on a blind. I use the mix on everything but my underwear and socks. Basically if it is made of cloth and I take it into the woods with me, it gets treated. I even spray down the DSD decoy bag to prevent hitchhikers from getting into the truck.

I have traditionally just used Off but will switch this year. As I understand it, permethrin is technically a poison so I'm assuming you don't want this on your skin at all. That creates a challenge when it's being sprayed on clothes you wear.
How dangerous is this stuff and what precautions should be used?
I'm planning to take my 7 year old daughter this Spring so I don't want to expose her to anything hazardous if possible.

Permethrin is a plant based chemical from the chrysanthemum plant the best I recall, it's not harmful enough to ever worry about considering the other option of dying from a tick bite.
From all I've read you apply liberally to clothing and allow it to dry completely and there is virtually no risk to it. I've not had any noticeable issue and i can base this off of yearly bloodwork I have to have done at work which tests for basically any and all kind of chemical exposures you could imagine. Only thing you have to watch is don't have it around felines, it will kill a housecat.
Agree , spray down and go hunting .. They told my granddaddy if he didn't stop cooking with hog lard he was going to die a early death , he lived to a good old age 95 ....
Ticks need to be attached to your body for at least 24 hours in order to reach the bloodstream. I realize this amounts to "Captain Obvious" advice, but simply taking a shower and inspecting yourself well following the hunt will go a long way in preventing tick borne diseases.

I agree w the tractor supply stuff. I run my dogs all year long multiple days a week. They've never had a tick on em but I spray em down w the tractor supply stuff. I also spray my chaps down w it. In tractor supply by me it's in the horse section. There's varying mixes depending on what your use is.
