Title: Spitballing an idea
Post by: misfire on September 12, 2018, 02:23:33 PM
Getting prepared for the shows after the first of the year. As some of you may know, I offer two different mouthpieces for my trumpets, but they are glued in mouthpieces, whatever you decide you want is what you get and there is no way to change it out. I am thinking that I go to the show with a few trumpets already glued up with both mouthpieces, then let people run them to see what they want. Then, I will have a bunch of trumpet bodies to choose from and that person can decide what mouthpiece they want. All I have to do then is glue it up, which will only take a minute or so, then hand it over. If you were to go to Unicoi or Nashville, would you want this preference or would you want to just pick what I have already made and glued?

It literally takes just a minute or so for the glue to dry, I would be doing it right in front of the customer and they would walk away in that time frame

Being a borderline germaphobe there are two suggestions I would like to make, first is pick up a box of alcohol swabs and second is some kind of swab you can dip in alcohol and fit through the inside of the mouthpiece to clean them between those trying them. I personally would never do it, I am to paranoid about catching something.

I always carry alcohol preps and such.

I'd want to run both then choose. I wouldn't care if it was glued a month ago or a minute ago.

Lee ,
As being old school about almost everything , I worry that if you change something after making it everything changes, in other words not being sealed the sound ( MAY and Most likely will change ) after sealing and glueing up . correct me if I'm wrong ....
But running both MP before glue up is a plus I would think for someone that doesn't have one of your Trumpets or is just getting started. So I know what MP I'm getting on my next one from you ANYWAY ...
Sorry for the NON help !!!!
Maybe try the glue up at Unicoi and see how it goes there because of the general crowd there will be more experienced in custom calls and maybe their input will be of more value .
God willing ,
See you in both places Brother ...

Well Lee, It wouldn't matter to me... I would pick the best running/sounding call regardless of what it was, but I think having both mouthpieces to try on each call gives the customer and the seller more options.
You do make one very sweet, smooth trumpet. :icon_thumright:

Thanks for the input guys. I am trying to get to Unicoi and Nashville with at least 50 turned trumpet bodies and twice that amount of #1 and #2 mouthpieces. I will have a few already glued up with both sizes and then for those who want the option, they can pick a trumpet and a mouthpiece. One day I will learn to do a screw in mouthpiece, till then, this will do

I was towards the back. Next year I have a better location, be right on the middle aisle.
