Title: Recommendation for push pin
Post by: TRG3 on May 09, 2018, 04:00:34 PM
My buddy filled all three Illinois spring turkey tags using only the Quaker Boy Easy Yelper. While this is a great endorsement for this particular call, I'm wondering if there might be a better one that those familiar with this type of call would recommend.

I have a Loftis chatterbox that I like the sound of. Haven't killed a turkey with it yet but haven't taken it much and our numbers are down compared to the past.

Both Shannon and Mike Lapp make good ones.  Probably there is a waiting list for them.

Shannon Kelly's (OG's) push pins are my favorite by a good margin.  So many different ways to run them. But the waiting list is long.  They show up on here on the classifieds from time to time and are usually gone in a few minutes. Another one to mention is the Ashby Soft Touch.  The Loftis and Hicks, as mentioned above, are also very good. I'd like to get one of Mike Lapp's.

Knight and Hale model 150. Cheap and effective.

Easiest that I have used is the Knight and Hale fighting hens in a pair.  Use them both at the same time, works like a charm.  Push them fast or slow to get the sound you need of course you can use them 1 at a time too.

The Easy Yelper is probably the best PRODUCTION push pin call out there for the money. Stay away from the Quaker Boy Turkey Thug model it's not worth dragging home IMO. I have several Camp callers but my favorite was the original one with the coil spring, sadly it lost its voice for some strange reason and no amount of tinkering has helped.
