Post by: texasturkeygirl on November 01, 2017, 02:43:12 PM
Already booked my flight and hotel for the 2018 Convention.  Didn't get to go last year so super excited to have everything reserved!

22 years?  That's awesome!  Wish I had known years ago how much fun and challenging turkey hunting could be.

I'd love to go one of these years.  How expensive are rooms nearby usually?  Or if you stay at the venue.

If you don't stay at the Gaylord, it's not too expensive.  We stay at the Best Western for $104 night plus taxes.  They have free breakfast and free shuttle to convention.  There's a reasonable steakhouse across from the Best Western where we have dinner.

It's improving Steve. Thanks!!  Still have a ways to go, but I'm able to use it enough to work on calls now. I'm just thankful to still have my thumb. I think it will be fine over time.

Dang shame they keep in Nashville, should be moved around.
They tried for several years to move it around and other states don't support it like Nashville does..It draws a lot more people ...Just like 1/2 the number in other states ....

They used to but 45,000 people is hard to argue with! Went to Atlanta one year and that was the biggest flop!!

You are correct there, Mark. Atlanta was awful. It's hard to move it. They have 50,000 people every year in Nashville. You can't really go north, due to weather. Plus, there is so much to do in Nashville. It's fairly easy for out of towners to navigate, if they decide to go downtown. The wives/girlfriends can walk to the mall to shop, if they don't want to go to the show. It's truly, the best place for it.

Guys it may be hard to argue w success and the money that comes with it. Lots of places would be equally as great I believe and have everything you mentioned. Nashville is not the only place that it'd work at.
I was once part of the state taxidermists association and the same things came up. People from the south felt that convention should be moved around the state so everyone had a better chance of attending.
Here's the thing if it flops like you're saying it did than ya gotta go w a producer. Bear in mind I'm from up north so maybe this next perspective may or may not be correct. I've never in my life heard of anyone wants to head to Atlanta. Idk what there is to do there for a family but I know I'd not go there. Maybe the place was a poor choice. Maybe my perception is wrong too. Not trying to offend anyone.
Next thing is why couldn't it move to another month if the "weather" is so horrible up north ? I've seen southerners drive somewhat challenged on a coating of snow on the news so I understand lol. Again please no offense.

No offense taken on my end. I agree with the whole thing about Atlanta. The rumor was, Rob Keck owed the Governor of Georgia a favor, so before he stepped down, he took the convention to Atlanta. I'm not saying it won't work elsewhere, it used to move around in the early days of it. Seems to just draw a great crowd in Nashville. As for having it in another month, they want to have it when turkey season is on everyone's mind. Plus, it is right before seasons start opening up in Florida. They can get the latest gimmicks into the hunters hands. It's all about marketing and the all mighty dollar. Until they start seeing the money dropping off, my guess is it will stay in Nashville.

Yep.  Like it used to.............

I've been to 3 in Nashville.  It's great !!!  But it's also a looooooooooong drive for some of us Yanks.

Also been to Columbus, Indy and Charlotte.  They were all very well attended and a nice break from the drive

I have no problem with Nashville.  In fact I like it.  10 hour drive and all but if it was in Tulsa....
