Title: Help me put some glass on my new turkey gun
Post by: PEte_A on October 28, 2017, 09:07:52 AM
Hey folks,

I just picked up a Remington 870 Sureshot Super Mag turkey. These came stock with fibre optic sights, but are also tapped for a rail.

I'd like to put some glass on it, but haven't decided between a red dot reflex, or a low power tradition scope. I would appreciate hearing any wisdom that you might have on the topic.

Thanks,
PEte

I have the 870 sps and put a Bushnell trophy fit scope on it with the turkey reticle and love it. I used Warne scope mounts since they are heavy duty so it could handle the 3.5 inch turkey load recoil and haven't had any issues.

X2!

I have had a Bushnell's on my 11-87's for better than 20 years without fail and have killed a pile of birds with them.

I have a Vortex Venom on my turkey right and absolutely love it. Wouldn't use anything else.

I've been using a Leupold 1-4 with the turkey recticle for quite awhile now. It's been 100% and hasn't failed after countless shots of 2 oz hevi-shot in a T/C Encore. I couldn't be happier with it.

Guess there's pros and cons to everything. I believe I'd go scope.

I use the ff3 red dot. It's light and both eyes open. I've never used a scope (fear of catching one in the eye) so I can't comment good or bad

FYI, there's a Bushnell XLT 1.75-4 for sale in the classifieds.  ;D

I'd go low power traditional scope.

I have the Bushnell trophy red dot 1x28 red/green on my H&R and a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on my SP-10.  Both work well but I like the 1x28 better and have never missed with it.  That said,  the TRS works better in low light but I've never shot a turkey until the sun was up good.

I've been using a 2-7x33 Leupold turkey scope for a few yrs. I used a truglo trubrite before that. Missed 3 in one year with that trubrite and canned it. Wouldn't go back to anything else. Love the leupy scope.

I've been using a Burris Fast Fire III for a few years now and couldn't be more happy with it's performance. You only shoot 40 (or those who stretch it, somewhat more) so the need for something precise as far as aiming point (as with 100 yd. + shooting) is nonexistent.
The Reflex sights are bright and precise enough for any turkey hunters needs. They're durable and, like a previous poster said, no danger of an eye crescent with one.
Regarding durability and ruggedness, they put them on the slide of pistols. I can't imagine a greater ruggedness test. That and I know a lot of people who have put them on turkey guns and have had zero trouble with them, myself included
They are light and reliable and they have a forever warranty without registering them and no matter if you're the first owner or a consequent one.
That's my vote...
