Title: Photobucket
Post by: hunter22 on June 24, 2017, 06:33:18 PM
I just found out that photobucket is not free anymore. All my pics have been removed from this site because the 3rd Party service is no longer free. Their price to upload pics to OG, Ebay, etc, is now $399 per year. Anyone else run into this. Thanks...

I can still get to all mine.  I run an add blocker in my browser.  Makes photobucket bearable.

I think mine just went AWOL.   Looks like I'm going to need some Flickr training.   I tried the other day and gave up.

My pics are all still there, and the site works as it always has. It's just slow as ever due to all the ads. ::)

Thanks.  I really appreciate the effort.  Keep in mind my short attention span. After about twenty words everything turns into blah blah turkey, blah blah hungry, blah blah, if there's no pictures to look at. ???

Photobucket has been on the slide for about a year now , it was good while it lasted -- I guess giving out free stuff and asking for nothing in return didn't work out so well for them

I placed a sticky on this in the hopes the membership will provide more good links , and perhaps a good tutorial for the rest of the forum to utilize -- thanks in advance -Shannon

As long as I have been using them over the last 15? plus years, I honestly wouldn't mind paying to use them. I believe I got my monies worth a long time ago. But, not $399.00 a year

Just my thoughts.

I just started messing with Flickr, but this is what worked for me:
1.  Upload the image to Flickr (mine was a jpg image and bigger than the final image here)
2.  Click on the image on your Photostream, it should go to a page with just that image
3.  On that page click on the download arrow.  (In the lower right, a down arrow into a horizontal bar)
4.  You should see a bunch of size options show up in a window.  Medium (480 x 640) worked well.
5.  Right click, or two finger touch pad click (Mac) to Copy Link Address which should look something like this:
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4241/35615727391_6108778679_z_d.jpg
6.  Paste that link between the img brackets as you normally would.

Another method is to use the Share button (curved upward arrow) and choose BBCode and the size and then copy the highlighted link and paste that directly here.  Don't add image brackets.  They are already embedded in the link.  This option will include a link back to your Flickr page.

I went to Photobucket and saw a notice about new changes. According to them they no longer allow 3rd party hosting (ie. posting pics to sites like Old Gobbler) without you paying a fee. If that's true, I'm going to imgur or Flicker or some other place.
Here's my trial pic. Let's see what happens.

I just signed up for Flicker and have my photos downloaded to the site.
Question I tried a test run to share a photo. When I hit the share arrow I copy the link. When I pasted the link to the thread all that shows up is the link. How do I get the picture to show up on my reply so everyone can see it without going to the Flicker site.
I'm very confused  :newmascot:

Make sure you are using the one that says BBC code. Then you can chose the size. I usually use the smaller of the ones listed as "large."

Thanks for your fast reply. I now see the problem when I click the share arrow I only get the URL link?
Any suggestions on why I'm not getting the BBC code. I've tried my laptop and iPhone and I'm only seeing the URL link

Are you perhaps using the share button on your photostream page, as opposed to the one for an individual photo?  If so, try clicking on a photo.  That should take you to a page with just that photo on it.  Now the share button in the lower right should show the BBC code option.  It should start with [ url=https://  . That string already has the [ img] code embedded in it, so don't add it as a wrapper when you post here.

Okay, I see that you have the picture of that nice buck set with a Safety Level of Moderate.  I think that might be the issue.  Click on your photo and scroll down the page.  You'll see where you have the Viewing Privacy set to Public, but the Safety Level set to Moderate.  I think that effects what kind of links you can get.  Try setting it to Safe and refresh the page.  It might take a minute for the new links to be active.
Try Share again and see if you get the BBC code option this time.

This is nuts and I'll try to explain. If I go to my account on my laptop or iPhone when I hit the share button I never see the BBC code. So I went to OG on my laptop and clicked on my link for the picture

Fifteen minutes ago your pic still was Safety Level Moderate, now it is Safe.  So now when I go to your pic and hit share, I see all the options including the BBC code.  If I go to your other pic, the one that still has Safety Level Moderate, I don't get the BBC code option.

I don't see the BBC code link on my phone either through safari or through the Flickr app. I use to be able to post using either. Now the only way I can post is if I do it from my laptop. I can click on share on my phone but I don't get the BBC code option anywhere. I can post the same pic from my laptop and bingo there is the BBC code. I don't know. Maybe someone else knows. I have been using Flickr for 3-4 years now and just ran into this problem within the past few months.

I finally have the laptop figured out but I need the app in my iPhone to function properly. I do 99% of my posting to forums on my phone. Thanks again guys hopefully Flickr is working on the problems. I should be receiving a email back from Flickr soon on these issues. I'll post the results if and when I receive them.
I'll also have to look at Tinypic for another option.

This has been an issue with Flickr for a while now.  There is a clumsy work around I found on the web.
I'm posting this from my iPhone using Flickr in Safari (Flickr.com).

If you open the image in Safari on your phone (you can use that Share link from the Flickr app), scroll down the page and hit the flickr.com button.  You should see the image the way it looks on the laptop.  Touch the download button (down arrow into a bar) and a bunch of sizes pop up.  Hold your finger on a size option until the long screen with the Copy option pops up. Hit Copy, and post that link between [ img] and [ /img] brackets (without the spaces). Once you are in flickr.com, it is pretty easy to go through your images and do others the same way.  Given how awkward this is, if I was doing most of my posting from an iPhone, I'd check out some of the other hosting services before getting too far into Flickr.

If you have an iphone or ipad, there is a nice app called PhotoStream for Flickr that links your iOS device to your Flickr account and makes grabbing the BBCode link real easy.

You figured it out for me!!!! You rock. That was all it was. When I have Flickr opened in safari and I have a picture opened I want to post all I had to do was scroll down and click on the Flickr.com link and then it looks just like it does on my laptop. The BBC code shows up and I can post the pic. Thanks a ton!!!! I thought I was going out of my mind. I still can't figure out how to post from the app but this is good enough for now.

This photobucket thing has really pissed me off.  I was on a fishing forum, and even an admin, for about 10 years, and it is completely shot now, since most everyone used pb based on the fact existing members already were.  Probably 60% of the photo content is gone now.  Some of the pb stuff is not going down, and it's only from the inactive users.  Only thing I can figure is that they aren't yet going after the accounts of people who don't continue to share through them.  All of my stuff still appeared on the forum, until I made a post with pb pics about a week ago.  It was fine for a day or so, then I got that same image everyone gets.  I would suggest not touching that pb account and using something else in the hopes that they'll just pass you over.

^^^ You very well could be right. I've been checking my posts on different forums and the pics are still there knock on wood. I'll never use them again for sharing and they will never get anymore of my money as I have ordered stuff from them in the past.

Photobucket Fix:

"In the cases where former/current PhotoBucket users haven't deleted all their albums, Chrome and Firefox now have an extension, Photobucket Embed Fix, that will display 3rd party hosted images. It will fix all your broken pics, no need for you to do anything, it runs entirely in the background.

Click Tools>Add-Ons (Or press CTL+Shift+A) >select Extensions > enter "photobucket embed" in the Search box (upper right corner) > then click the install button."

I couldn't get flicker to work worth a flip. Went to imgur and it's so simple even I can do it!!! Very user friendly for this redneck.

Flickr is a pain.. and I'm a computer nerd by trade.. so that is saying something..

IMGr is much easier.. my 2 cents..

The price of photobucket is why I haven't posted any pics of my custom calls for sale. The price and struggle to find a free hosting site has been discouraging. I am going to try TINYPIC.COM which has been mentioned in an earlier post on OG. Hopefully I will be able to share my pictures soon.

Flickr is great, but largely caters to photographers who are--by nature--tinkerers who live in a world of minutiae and meta.  If you're not keen on Google Photos (https://photos.google.com/) I would use Imgur (https://imgur.com/) to easily share your content.

Cheers,
Jimmy

Edit: As Number17 mentioned (http://oldgobbler.com/Forum/index.php/topic,75812.msg756204.html#msg756204), you can install the Google Chrome extension to fix broken Photobucket links.  Click here (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobucket-embedded-imag/ogipgokcopooepeipngiikdkpmcpkaon?hl=en-US) to add it to your browser, if you're interested.

Edit 2: Advice on posting images - if you post your URL with the following BBcode it will resize your post so the image doesn't hijack the entire thread:  [img width=320 height=240]YourImageLinkHere[/img]

I also used to use Photobucket but went over to Flickr. However, after looking at Imgur I may like it more. One thing I like about it as opposed to Flickr is the cropping. If your pic is cell phone, it's basically 16:9 which, IMO, gives you too much in one direction, be it height or width, for forum posting. With Flickr you can limit the size of the pic but it still gives you the same aspect ratio. With Imgur you can easily crop the pic to whatever you want both horizontally and vertically. For instance this thread is the width it is due to large horizontal photos. Personally, I dislike having to use scroll bars viewing a post.
