Title: Whats your favorite boots in warmer weather.
Post by: Life of Riley on April 25, 2017, 02:59:28 PM
I've got a pair of muck wetland boots, and a pair or danners with light insulation, but I'm looking for advice for a boot to wear later in the season when a lot of times it's 65-80 degrees here in MN. The two I listed previously are too hot much over 60 degrees.

Lightweight wool blend socks underneath.

I roll them down if it gets real hot.

I have some warm ones I wear when hunting in Canada in the fall.

Boggs rubber boots with no insulation or Danner Mountain Light hiking boots.  Depends on the terrain.

Deep South Alabama guy here so heat in the late season is brutal most years. I've come to love the Muck Snake Proof boots. The opener tends to be quite cold (28 degrees in the morning this year) and by the time a week or so into April rolls in, it's 65+ degrees at first light and 85 by mid morning. My first year wearing the Mucks and they have been a treat. They are heavy, but when it gets hot and ol "no shoulders" starts moving the bite protection is a nice assurance, and the cooling liner on the inside of them is pretty dang nice. They do have a weird fit. I wear a size 11 in athletic shoes and a size 11 was dead on for me, but my father wears a size 13 athletic and the size 13s he purchased had to almost be pryed off when he tried them on.

That's my favorite warm weather boot, too.  I had to retire a pair last year due to them being totally worn out.  Must have had them 15 years or so.

Do the warm vs cold weather boots fit differently? I love my Muck Woody Maxs but without heavy socks, my heel slips in them.  I guess I will just have to go try a pair and see.

I have wide feet, so I had to size up in the lightweight ones.  The heavy ones are a different brand and they have wide sizes, so they fit right out of the box.

I have a couple pair of the Danner jackle camo boots very light weight more like a running shoe. Work really well in dry areas.

If it is warm and dry I would just assume wear a pair of sneakers most of the time or hiking boots. I do what to get a waterproof hiker for next year, just don't have the funds this year and I can't wear cheap shoes because of frostbite damage to my left foot I got in my accident in 88

Nike started making boots for the Army and Air Force and they are pretty darn comfortable. Just like wearing shoes but with a 8 inch lace up. Super light.

My Keen mid hikers in wide if its just damp and my Irish Setter 400 gm 9" lace ups if its wet.  Extremely comfortable, highly supportive and the wide toe box allows for swelling if im doing alot of walking/hiking and an extra pair of socks if it chilly.

X2.  And, if you ain’t worried about snakes, they make a lower cut (hiking boot-like) version. I don’t understand all the love for a rubber/neoprene boot during warm weather. That is, unless you like sweaty, wrinkly feet.  Even the lightest and best are like wearing plastic bags for socks.

+1, I change into these about nine or ten o'clock after the dew dries. First thing I have some Redhead rubber boots I forget the name of. I do Redhead because they'll replace them at the Bass Pro down the road.

I just wear my Lacrosse rubber boots that are like 18inches high. They don't bother be walking long distances and I would rather be prepared to get into water than try to find away around it. They are uninsulated and work great.

I bought a set of Irish Setter TrueTimber Kanati VaprTrek boots this month in the widest size they have but when they came in I knew I was in trouble looking at them they were so narrow, tried them on and they fit like a vise. No clue what to do now.

I use the same boots I wear for quail hunting...  Uninsulated gortex hunting boots.

I used to wear rubber knee-high boots (such as LaCrosse Grange), but my feet cook in those things, and if I decide to walk or run & gun, they are not so great.

I recently purchased these on sale at Sportsman Warehouse, and have been pleasantly surprised by them.  Comfortable and waterproof, and great for long hikes or rough terrain...  They ran a bit small for me, and I purchased about 1/2 size larger.

I've  worn Danner Pronghorn snakeboots for several years, but if I am hunting where snakes are not an issue, I wear a cooler, uninsulated boot. I tried a couple of different ones and picked up a pair of uninsulated boots from Cabelas in their brand and they are extremely lightweight and comfortable and a lot cheaper than most boots. They fit and feel just like Danners and I am not so sure that Danner is not the manufacturer

Some Scarpa hiking boots I’ve had for almost 20 years.

Use some strap on snake gaiters to make myself feel better.

I got some from sportsman guide on clearance for $23.  Waterproof, camo, and one of the most out of the box comfortable boots I’ve ever owned. We’ll see how long they last.

I'm swapping between three boots this season depending on where I'm hunting.

Lacrosse Aerohead Snake boots with Dan's Frog Legs snake chaps sewed in for swamps.

Lacrosse NWTF Grange Uninsulated Bottomland Rubber boots for wet conditions that shouldn't get over rubber boot height.

Keen Mid Hikers in bottomland for hill country.
