Title: Pattern question
Post by: aeasley10 on March 28, 2017, 07:20:49 PM
I did an extensive pattern test last week with my new 20 ga & red dot sight.
-truclock & sumtoy chokes
-Winchester Double X #5 -3", & Fed HW #7 -3"
-clean barrel every shot

Question 1: Is it normal for different chokes to have different point of impact?  The Trulock was literally shooting 5-6" left and 4-5" low from the 10" pattern with the sumtoy using 2 different ammo's

Question 2: Is it normal to shoot more left or more right with each 10 yd increase?  With 30yd as my zero, 40 was slightly right, then more at 50 and even more at 60.  I'm only talking the 10" pattern moving over maybe 5-6" at 60yds but just curious.

Yes and yes. It is very common for different chokes and different loads to hit different POIs.

A red dot sight will only correct POI to POA at a given distance, i.e. 30 yds. POI could be a tad left at 20, on at 30, a tad right at 40, and more so the further out you go.

Ok that's exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for.  Thank you!
