I'm here. Got a while before the season starts though. Buddy already has one down but he's hunting in Hawaii.
I edited the initial post to include the last member. Standing on my deck listening to a pile of gobblers greet the morning.
I heard one behind my house too this morning. I was only out there for bout 10-15 min but I heard 6-7 gobbles.
Season starts here for the adults next weekend .they have been gobbling really good here during the week.
Wonder what our next step is here folks.
I just sent a PM to Shannon (Old Gobbler, Admin) alerting him of our situation. I'll post here as soon as he responds.
I'm going to speculate that we will have to elect a new team Capt. from our roster and add a 12 th member from the Randoms as some seasons will be opening very soon.
Any volunteers? I personally cannot commit to being Capt. as I still work full time and my wife is disabled with a terminal illness. I just won't have the extra time.

Seems that way. I've seen some on the list logged in but for some reason haven't checked in. Who knows, hope we're not spinning our wheels and not budging an inch.
Yeah, hopefully the moderators can help us out and figure out what to do. We may be dead in the water due to seasons already starting.

Ok guys I'm going to at least put up a contest entry thread and a story thread. I really can't be a captain cause of end of year stuff at school. My business time. But Tony has already whacked one out so we need it recorded with his pictures. Deerbasshunter3 and Dmason3 have responded to pm and still wanna play. That's awesome!!! I'll get the ball rolling and try to get some other stuff up and I could use some help. I'm terrible on a puter.

Congrats tonybforua! I still have more than a month to go before I can hunt. Spending my time obsessing about buying a boat. I've been off the water too long and am tired of looking at the dead boat in my back yard. It's a project for sure, and if I put in the time and effort to make it work, it's still too small for me.
Sorry guys, just saw this thread. Had two strutters in the field yesterday. No gobbling yet. It's still kinda chilly up here. Looking to be in the field chasing them in about a month.

Where ya at Dmason3? Hey RI, what kind of boat? lake, ocean, river? My wife bought me one last year. I have 2 rivers I can play on, one is bigger with bigger inboard jets. The other is very close to my house, eleven point, with a 25 hp limit on motors. She got me a 17' blazer with semi-v and a Mercury 4 stroke motor with a tiller. I love it.
I think turkey season and fishing season go hand in hand .hunt turkeys in morning and jump on the boat and chance red fish ,sea trout and tarpon in the evning .cobia are just starting show up here .i have 24 foot pontoon boat with 90hp on it .plenty of room to relax .
Bet those put up a fight. We normally catch rainbows, smallies, Kentuckys, and goggle eye in eleven point river. It's cold with a ton of huge springs and its smaller. I bet a tarpon is like a silver monster fighting,lol.

Ok guys. Fill me in. Ive been in contest for years on sites. How does it work here? I know the pics I need and I know to post them in the entry thread. What about the team standings? Where is that found and how does that work?
My first contest here too Birdman, even though I was in several over at the old T&TH site.
We're all going to have to review the rules posted in the contest thread I reckon.
ALSO, we still need a Captain if there are any volunteers. I work full time and my wife is disabled so I'm a caregiver too, I just don't have the extra time. Don't be shy boys...

Guess we can copy and paste rules for contest. I've done this for a couple of years on this site and I know they want good clear pics of beard, spurs on tape and bird weight on a scale. I think there is an example for them on the rules thread. Yes when the other chime in we defiantly need to get a captain picked out so were official.
If we need 1 more MDTOM84 has responded and wants to play too.
If this were not my first year in this sites contest I would volunteer. I am just not sure of how everything works so I am gonna pass. I will help in any way possible though. Looking at the rules we might need to finalize a roster and get a captain soon. I looked back at last years stuff and it seems pretty straight forward.

Make a photobucket account. It is the best way to upload a picture. Let me know if you need any help with it.

Jeff, since your the captain it says the captain should submit a roster of our team. I guess you should post an updated one on the registration thread or message Shannon and see what he says. Thanks again for stepping up. I tried to help you out with some of the posting.

Still not much gobblin in my area. Heard a couple but they only gobbled a couple times each. Lots of hens right now. I zoomed in on some pics I had of the old bird I'm after. He has some pretty good hooks. Definitely an old man just like I thought. I have some vacation in an use so maybe this next week I will be off a day and can go after one. We will see.
Got out this afternoon just to get out. Had two gobblers walk past me on the right at about 20 yards. It was my first sit of the year, and it was afternoon so didn't want to end my season already (one bird/person on our property). We will be out there with decoys first thing in the morning. The good thing about the season starting early is that I can be picky right now.

You need to post your pics of beard, Spurs and weight and the paper it wants us to use in the rule thread in the contest entries. Bird man posted up a running thread but I'll have to copy it so I can edit it for our running scores. I think without pics they won't accept it for the contest.
By the way congrats!!!! Can't wait to hear the story.

Had a jake and a young gobbler come in 10 feet behind us Sunday morning. I couldn't get turned around, and really didn't want to use my one bird/person for the season on a young gobbler on my first hunt of the season. We heard about five or six birds, and it is early. Should be better this coming weekend. I will be out Saturday and Sunday morning.

Folks I'll be out of pocket for the next couple of days. I have to take a bus load of kiddos to Linn,Mo for our Mo state Skills USA contests. If you kill a bird (and I hope you do) just post it up and I'll get it put in our running score when I get back. I am going to go walk the farm Thursday morning around 8:30 or 9 to see if I can get on a bird.
I don't know what is going on, but we have not been seeing or hearing any birds this season. I walked from one side of the property to the other, last week, and never saw the first bird or track. I am hoping it is just the weather that is throwing them off. We will likely be hunting public land on Saturday, so that should be promising.

One of my birds was shot at yesterday morning. Clean miss but I bet his IQ is through the roof. Guy who shot at him said he came in behind him and he tried a quick shot. I hate it because I was planning to hunt him tomorrow.
We didn't see or hear a single bird this morning. I hate to be this guy, but unless my schedule for the first week of may changes, I don't think I'll be able to get back out.
What makes it so bad is that I had a bird at 20 yards one evening back in March. I let him go because I figured the season was early and it was my first sit... A lesson learned, indeed.
That sucks dbh3, maybe something will change and you can get back after them.
My season starts in the morning too. Been at the farm in hunting for the last 2 mornings. Yesterday they were all on neighboring property but not far. Today heard at least 5 on that property. They hammered all morning. Gonna let the wife have first crack at one then I'll try to fill my tag. Worked very well last year.

The weather finally broke in Michigan, supposed to be around 70 all week and I'm on vacation. Hard to believe just one week ago we had 4" of snow!

Way to go!!! Long story short, had a good bird at 30 yards to our right heading to the field edge towards the decoys. Everything seemed perfect as the wife was going to get to harvest this joker. Had 15 yards left to hit edge and a freakin hawk swooped down and tried to take Mr. gobblers head off. The hawk missed and is now on the ground have a stare down with our bird. Hawk decided to give it one last attempt on having a turkey dinner and failed. But managed to send our gobbler heading into the other direction rapidly. We got him to gobble again but he didn't want to play anymore. Should have shot that sum beach when he hit the ground but didn't. So day 1 is a bust for me but I think I'm going to take another day off this week. After that I'm weekend only. Too much stuff going on at school.
.... lets see here. Spent the first weekend on a private ranch that I paid a trespass fee for both my dad and I. My father got one opening day in the first fifteen minutes but i failed to get one all weekend there. Sunday night i moved camped a few hours north to the canyons of south/central colorado to meet up with my friends who were hunting turkey for the first time ever. Next morning I guided them to a secret spot of mine and had two gobblers come within 20 feet of the blind, both guys were using traditional bows and not mentally ready apparently. It happened quick because the toms didnt hang out and strut around, nonetheless they should have seized the opportunity!... hunted several times since and no luck, weather, etc. Thursday night I go out to a ranch I have access to checkin in with my flock Im more accustomed to. Ill being staying until monday morning so hopefully I'll have at least one chance.

Tagged my Michigan bird Wed 4-20 at 7:15 a.m. A two year old, 19.5 lbs, 3/4 in spurs and 9 1/2 in beard. Not a monster but he'll eat well and it's points for the team. Turkey Nut- My Wenge/Padauk "Jester" striker was part of my arsenal. I had a Dentist appt. this morning, have to take my wife to the Doctor this afternoon and my band plays tonite so I'll get the story in our thread and the official score pics up ASAP. Thanks!

Getting antsy here listening to all these hunting stories. Wild hunt TH with the hawk! That's one you'll remember. Some of my most memorable hunts ended with no bird but I'll never forget them, like the time I worked a bird for over an hour just to have him emerge from the wood line behind me and strut about 5 yards to my right. I could have swung around and grabbed him by the neck at one point. He started running to my jake decoy, thought he was looking to pick a fight. I was going to take him when he got there, but he kept running into the woods and was gone. Season opens in CT this Wednesday and in RI on Thursday.
With only one weekend left, I decided to go after an old bird I've been chasing after work. Walking in, he gobbled twice. I setup and he came out into a field. He walked across but wouldn't come close enough for a shot. He has a paintbrush that I would love to measure before May 1st. Gonna keep after him hard. May try him after work again before the weekend. After he left I checked and he was 82 yards. If he would've gotten under 60 I would have taken him. So close....

Well, I am off Sunday, so I will be in the woods one more time this season. As bad as the hunting has been (nobody on our farm has killed a bird) I cannot promise anything, but it will not be for a lack of trying.
Sorry guys, didn't get it done today. I got to the farm I hunt in CT just before light and headed down the road to where they typically roost. Had one hammering just where I thought he'd be. I put out a single hen decoy, sat down in my Cabela's Turkey Lounger which immediately broke, and gave him a few soft clucks to know I was there. He flew down and headed away. I kept at him, but heard some turkey calling from the field a good 80 or so yards in front of me. I thought it might have been another hunter. After a series of clucks a few minutes later, he hammered back. He had completely circled around me and was standing 30 yards directly to my right. Of course, my gun is pointed left. Over the rise came a flock of maybe 10 birds from the field! There were some jakes in half strut and a bunch of hens, all walked straight to the longbeard. There were too many eyes for me to make a move. I heard them shuffling behind me for a bit.
After everything quieted down, I tried to locate them again. I heard a gobble back toward my truck. I set-up and called but no responses. I dropped my broke chair back at the truck and see another truck parked next to me with a shotgun case sitting on the seat. I know other people hunt that farm, but they usually only hunt weekends. Lovely. I knew there wasn't anybody where I just came from, so instead of hunting rest of the farm, I went back and set up on the field I was near before and did some blind calling. Amazingly, a longbeard snuck in silently and he stopped about 40-45 yards right in front of me. I clicked off my safety, and instead of continuing to my deke, he craned his neck and started putting. I should have dropped him right there, he took off running to the opposite side of the field. After that, I moved to try and get close to a bird gobbling in the distance, but he was on another property and I couldn't make him move. I did hear a shot coming from the fields near my truck, but after I called it quits, the other truck was still there. Don't know if they got a bird or not.
Well, got it done on my last day of hunting this season.

Well folks my season is over. This is the first time in several years I have crapped out hunting. By far one of the worst seasons for me. Between work, family and I've been sick, didn't get to hunt as much as I like. Sorry guys.
It's all good. We all have a bad year every now and then. I appreciate you stepping up and captaining this team also buddy.

Don't worry man. It was a bad year here in Illinois too. I didn't see a single satellite bird all year. Saw a tom strutting on a hen just two weeks ago. Thanks for letting me on the team this year. It was my first year doing this and really enjoyed it

We can keep the same team and name. We can kinda get this thing rolling before sign up and not run into the problems we did this year. But we overcome and so the strut stoppers formed. We'll get our team together before it's even time to sign up and be ready to rock and roll. Jeff
