Title: REM 11-87 SM – new pattern results
Post by: FL-Boss on April 02, 2013, 03:59:14 PM
I had everything set up with HEVI #7 3in, but decided to try the 3.5in, since my gun can shoot 3.5in.  Here are the results with JH .660. I gained around 60 hits by switching to the 3.5in #7

That will for sure result in a jelly head! Looks like you have a good even pattern around the 10 also for most of it.

That is a very nice even pattern, I would be quite happy with that.

Thats a sweet pattern! That JH .660 is mean, my 870 love it with lead or mag blends, havent shot straight 6's or 7's out of it yet.

That looks a lot like my 870 Supermag with .660 Jellyhead pattern.  You are good to go!

I like it too... but not sure it's the most practical choke for actual turkey hunting. Yes.. it looks good on paper for "show and tell" But for hunting I think I need to open it up a little bit... don't want the gun to shoot like a bullet at 25 yards as most shots in my area are 20-35 yards.

I'm going to try the Wrights #1 .670 next week -  I know I will sacrifice less hits in the 10in at 40 yards.. but it should spread out better in the 20in ring.. which is what I want..  more margin for error..
We'll see...

With a good .670 choke, it is very possible you will get even better 10" numbers than you did with the .660 Jelly Head.  Only one way to find out.

There's and old saying...aim small miss small.

Trust me when I say any good shooting turkey choke shooting Hevi-13 turkey loads is going to likely blow holes about the size of a softball or just a tad bigger to maybe volleyball size at 20yds.  That goes for a .655 choke to a .675 choke and probably even up to .680.

I'll post results in a week or so...should be interesting as I don't know or hear much about that wright choke in Remington's

I don't know anything about a Wrights choke.  Clark says they are good, and I am sure they are.

All I can tell you about any choke is that you won't know how it will shoot until you try it with the good stuff.

my gun that throws 200 plus #6's still shoots a 6-8 inch total pattern at 15 yards which is more than enough leeway, maybe yours will be the same...good work there, that pattern is a birdcrusher!!  Opening day is coming soon!!!! :z-guntootsmiley: :z-guntootsmiley: :you_rock: :you_rock:
