Title: Id really like to get after some fall birds
Post by: savduck on June 18, 2012, 09:30:50 PM
Not sure what kinda of finances and time off I can get, but if somebody is willing, Id like to hook up with some board members and get after some fall birds. Ive hunted WV and KY in the fall, but havent connected. I was really there to duck hunt, but we slipped in a few hunts so it wasnt to serious.

Do you guys that hunt them in the fall use the same gun setup you use in the spring or do you go with something lighter due to the amount of walking involved. I grouse hunt a lot, which obviously involves a lot of walking. I sure don't want to carry my 8.75# 1187 for them. My grouse gun weighs 6#.

I use the same gun as I am not out to flush and shoot.

I like to call them to the gun.....

Id also like to echo what Denny said.  I carry my same 870 that I hunt with in the spring.  I am not afraid to shoot at one on the fly if in range as the WV fall season is a 1 bird limit and either sex bird.  I do however like to attempt to pattern them or cut them off rather than flush them.
