These shells are capable Turkey killers at 30-35 yds, but fall apart by the time they reach 40 yds.
I will be using these shells this Spring, but will have them backed with a Hevi 3-2-7 shell if needed.

That is my experience with those shells. I still have a few boxes of them. I used those for a few years when I hunted with lead only and we always shot 30yds or less. I have found that the Win 6's get me to 40yds and less with anywhere from 110-130 @ 40 with all of the 3" turkey loads from Win in 6's. Bought a bunch of the 1 7/8 6's for 8.00 at Walmart and they are killers.
I sure do wish my local Walmart carried Winchester #6 Turkey loads. All they stock is #4's and refuse to put anything else on the shelf.

Yea the grey box Win 6's have become scarce around here as well. I can find 1 3/4 HV 6's in one walmart and that's it.
The 3" Remington Duplex load eats the paper up at 30 Yards, from what I can remember. I still have some put back.
Although, I haven't patterned those through my Indian Creek .665 chokes to see what they would do. Maybe that would be a good side project someday?
Maybe I was lucky, but I shot this load in the 1 7/8oz 4x6 back in the mid 90's from an 870 with two different barrels, a 21" and a 28". Surprisingly, both barrels threw good patterns at 40 yards with a Hastings .660 choke and I killed a few birds with that combo. I don't know if they've changed anything, but these were the old ones with the olive drab hull and black brass.
I've still got a newer box of them and have actually considered breaking that gun out again and trying to take a bird with it just for old time's sake.

For a shell that won't pattern beyond 30 yds, what good are the fours? Marketing gimmick! That shell would perform better with straight 6s. Just like the big ammo companies mixing TSS 7s and 9s together. All the 7s do is take up room in the hull that could have benefited from much higher pattern density and performance if they were straight 9s. Again, that is probably marketing as they can still sell those shells in states where a shell with some 7s in it is legal that have minimum size pellet restrictions (EM Magblends is another example).

Hastings .665 in a 21"bbl is what I shot them out of as well. Back then we didn't care about 40yds. Just bought a .655 from Hastings. It was one of three .655's left at the warehouse. Interested to run then through that choke and see what happens. Be like going back in time except now using polished barrels.
