Title: Scouting reports
Post by: turkey harvester on March 06, 2023, 08:53:23 AM
Huckleberry and myself hit a new spot Saturday morning. Been logged but we found 3 that were together and already henned up. They gobbled fairly well considering how foggy it was. I heard one across from my house this morning. Hens were roosted right along highway. Watched 3 hens fly down and no more gobbles lol.

Early spring here , I've heard reports of good gobbling , but I myself havent heard it, but the days I've been off to listen were less than ideal . Birds are definitely ahead of schedule , which could be a good thing. 6 days. We will see I guess. I only have 1 more morning and 2 evenings I can listen before the opener , so I guess we will see .

I've heard reports of gobbling and been seeing birds strutting in big flocks a lot here in Kentucky. Unfortunately working a lot of overtime these next two weeks so I won't get any scouting in before my season starts in Florida then South Carolina

My DIL scouts for me LOL. They live at 2K ft. and birds don't winter there at all; they go down in the valley about 6 miles south. She called me last week and said they're back...flock of 30 in the back field including 4 or 5 strutters. Of course they'll break up but will be in the area somewhere.

I will be out starting Monday morning taking my daughter. Cold temps have moved in for the week, so will have to see how the birds are effected. I have seen lots of birds since deer season ended, so hoping for a great spring.

I haven't been out yet to look around. We got so much snow I'm waiting for it to melt some before I adventure out.

Did you ever get to listen any more?  I haven't heard many, just a single bird in some of the same old spots, definitely fewer than than any time in the last 5 or 6 years.  I haven't been up towards your way listening though.  I saw jakes the last couple years so I'm hoping that a lot of the birds are just silent right now.

Good luck to anyone hunting MS tomorrow

Yes I've been out a few more times since then . Morning and evening . Nothing changed really. Inconsistent , and the last few mornings the weather for gobbling was good in my opinion .
