Title: Mossy Oak Graphics Country Shot Gun Kit
Post by: Sir-diealot on February 26, 2023, 10:01:10 PM
I was wondering if anyone has used these and what their opinion of them are? Also has anyone removed them and if so how much residue if any is left behind? Seemed like the turkey saw my barrel the few times I tried to raise it this past year, it is the shiny blued barrel so I thought I would dull it down a bit. Thanks. Oh any tips on install or removal?

Used it on my SX3 and has been holding up for at least five seasons.

Removed it from the barrel as it held a lot of moisture, barrel has a matte finish.

They work excellent Steve. I haven't removed it, but from what I hear, it leaves little or no residue....good luck...

I put one on a Rem1100 20 ga. Wasn't too hard, looks pretty good to me. Also heard they will hold moisture.

I put it on my sons pump gun , it's 2 years old and still looks great .
Just take your time , and I'm sure it will be fine .

I put one on a mossberg 835 that was in pretty rough shape. It looked pretty good when it was done but I had a hard time with the forearm ends and buttstock stock grip area. The barrel was the easiest part for sure

I put one on an 870 and it worked out pretty well.  It's been on there 3 years and still holding up well.

Need to use a heat gun or hair dryer to help shape some of the curves.  There are youtube videos out there to show the technique.

Don't move!  Lol, kidding aside, I used it on my 10 gauge, worked great. I removed it awhile back,
mostly just to change it up, but also it was a little slippery to grip when wearing cotton gloves. But
might have been due to the weight of gun. It left a little residue here and there that was easily removed with
some alcohol and gun oil. I used to wrap my bps with allen cloth camo tape every year, mostly to protect
finish, but also because it is one shiny gun. As other posters said watch some videos, take your time and use a hair dryer/heat gun, and it will look dang near like a good dip job.

This will be year 3 on my 870 super mag.  So far its been good.  Wish I went with green leaf instead of bottomland.  Its a bit more grey then I like.  I watched the YouTube videos a few times.  Broke my gun down on a plastic folding table and used a hair dryer and exacto knife.  Worked pretty well.  Heat gun would have been better.

I put one one back in january.  I didn't like it and removed it a week ago.  It leaves no residue, you can't tell it was ever on it

Thank you everyone I do appreciate it, I was glad to see some comments about real world experience from people I trust. It was funny because I had no problem moving my camera around in the blind but a lot of problems with moving the gun around the couple of times I did. I mostly to pictures last year and only bothered to raise the gun maybe 4 times tops and 3 of those were just to practice holding on a bird as I chased that copper all year. I have indeed been watching the videos, but there was only one that talked about removing it and he did not comment about residue left on the gun. I will not be the one to do the install, a friend with better hands and eyes than me will be doing it for me. What did you guys use to prep the gun to remove oils first? Does it matter what X-ACTO Z-Series # is used? I have never used one and I see they have a #1 & #2 Think I will go with good old Mossy Oak Break Up Being that I will be in a blind if they made it in the Eclipse I would uses that but they do not. Hideous pattern anyway.

Yup. Had mine on my stock for a while and took it off. It left no residue at all. Super simple!

It doesn't matter what number exacto, just as long as it cuts. I cleaned my barrel and stock with alcohol.

I've used the stuff mainly on scopes etc... it's not full proof stuff... the more you heat and pull / tug at those small areas of the vinyl the more likely it will curl and try not to stay in place...  Do this to a gun is more for your enjoyment, I never saw a turkey who cared if a shotgun is covered in some kind of camo...IMO

More just wanting it darker because I am in a blind, I have proven to several people that brighter things inside of a blind are much easier seen even to the human eye let alone a turkey's eyes. That's why I wear all black and a blind. I do agree though,  I don't think turkey or fashion conscious.

I've had one on my son's youth 20 ga since 2016 and it's still going strong.

I did two guns less than a month ago. They turned out great.  One was on a wood stocked 28 gauge and the other on a synthetic stocked 20 guage.  Cleaned with alcohol first and then went slowly using a high wattage hair dryer. Here's mine (12 gauge on the right)... for me, it just took this gun to another level. No issues with moisture or residue that I can tell.

Thank you each very much. The guy that is going to do it said he thinks he has a heat gun so that should help. I have to have him here to watch the video as he is Mennonite and they do no have TV's or cell phones.

Both shotguns are the newer Bottomland. I put a wrap on the one on the left and the one on the right is factory dipped. I felt like the wrap was slightly shiny and it felt slippery to me, especially when damp or wet. I ended up taking the wrap off and bought a new stock and foregrip for it.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230312/c9ad66951a63edf6f899aa16ac4bc4db.jpg)

I've been using the graphics for plenty of years now. I'll change guns up some with different patterns. Never once have I had any issues with residue or moisture on any of my guns.

I've done a few. They work fine and leave no residue when removed. I really don't care for how slick the finish is though. Quite slippery with gloves on.

Thank you each. I have everything here to do it now and I showed him the part of the video with the heat gun and he has they exact same one so that is encouraging. He will come over to what the entire video before he installs it.

@TJR is that with just fabric guns or is it the same with gloves with we'll say rubber nodules on the fingers and palms which is what I wear? Thanks

I've used the Mossy Oak kit to cover parts on my old 870 youth model with synthetic stock. For the money it's an ok temporary option but does have a slick finish. Another option is using a product called Stealth Strips. Lou, the owner, is a super helpful guy and has his turkey gun wrapped in it. He can answer any questions about wrapping a gun. The main thing with any vinyl wrap is to not leave any edges where your hands come in contact with or it'll eventually start to come off.

I found the finish to have a slick feel no matter the gloves I was wearing. It's manageable and buy no means a deal breaker in my opinion. Just takes some getting used to.

I've used the kits on a couple of guns. I will agree with it feel slick with gloves especially "jersey"/cotton gloves. At the same point it wasn't any different than a gun with a glossy finish wood stock.

Me personally I felt I did a better job using a hair dryer instead of a heat gun. To me, the heat gun got to hot, to fast(maybe it was just my heat gun). I felt I had a better control of the heat and didn't feel as if I would melt the wrap as easy with the hair dryer.

Good luck and make sure you post some pics of the finished product!

Thanks bud, I will be sure to do, I have everything needed and they are going to come over to watch the video to see how it is done later this week. Quick question, do you think you may have held the heat gun to close?

It is very possible that I had it close. It might even be that my heat gun has a higher wattage making it produce more/higher heat than what other people are using. All I do know for sure is I could really feel the heat coming out of the heat gun more than I could with the hair dryer. I could have used my heat I just felt more comfortable using the hair dryer.

Remember those picture for us!

I've had it on my barrel and receiver for probably 5 seasons, it is holding up better than the factory camo on my SA 20.

I used a hair dryer.

Thanks guys, I honestly do not know if he owns a hair dryer, their religion my say it's vanity to own one, I don't know? I have a hair dryer here, I only use it to give my decoys more shape every Spring, I don't have enough hair left to use one.

I hear you on the "no hair" thing. I haven't had enough to use hair dryer on in over 20 years! I just borrowed the wife's...I still don't think she knows I borrowed it.. ;D

I started going gray in my late teens and lost my hair in my 30's I guess and that was 23 years ago. Well I had to buy two hair dryers, one for my decoys and one to replace the one I burnt up by leaving it on to long inside the decoy that belonged to my GF (The hair dryer not the decoy) Women get so miffed over the littlest things.  ::)
