Title: Patterened the new 20 gauge SX4 today
Post by: lunghit on June 29, 2022, 01:28:31 PM
I planned to test 3 chokes today but because of the heat I only patterned my Indian Creek .562. The gun is a 20 gauge Winchester SX4 and I used Apex 3" number 9's in a 24" barrel. I first sighted in the new FF3 with field loads at 10 yards. I cleaned the barrel and shot two more times cleaning in between shots at 40 yards. The first time I got 309 hits the second shot got 349 hits. I then cleaned the barrel again and took a shot at 20 yards at a turkey head target. I adjusted for the slight right shot pattern so in the spring when I shoot again I should be dead on. Don't mind the multiple black dots, they were used as reference to move the red dot to the center of the pattern.

Thanks everyone. Going to take one or two more shots before the spring season and this gun will be hunt ready. Not even going to try a different choke.

Great setup

So what two chokes didn't you use? My SX4 has a 28" barrel. I was using Hevi13 7's with deadly results this year, but am kind of short on them and may try tss next spring since 9's will probably be legal in Iowa.

I have a Jebs .565 and an Indian Creek .575 that I was going to try. I also have a Indian Creek .570 but that's going in the SX3 20 gauge. That choke also puts over 300 in the 10 in the SX3. If I had to pick one choke to try in the SX4 I'd go with the .570 Indian creek. And 9's will most likely be legal here in NY as well.
