Title: Trumpet displays
Post by: Ctate94 on June 13, 2022, 01:03:38 PM
Looking at building a display for trumpets, and looking for some inspiration. Mind showing what y'all have to display?

Thanks

I try not to post anything I don't have for sell.
I have gotten several messages today asking if I want to sell any of my calls

I took a piece of rough 3/4 with the bark because I liked the rustic look of it and shellaced it. Then I drilled and added (13)  2 1/2" long dowels. You could add many more if you want and make it bigger,  or make a couple of smaller ones like mine, or whatever you think you need.
Don't add the dowels before finishing the board, finish first then add shellaced(or poly, etc.) dowels. Much easier that way. Its simple. You don't have to glue the dowels down either, I didnt.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220614/a9d8b784117f525add776edf48a22feb.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220614/ba344488341c82a22570c9adfccc6f3a.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220614/face6df6b8154f93eebcc1518c36ed2e.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220614/95464ec843d10438d303d1c91055a9f9.jpg)

Thanks

No prep, two coats of shellac with a light fine sanding in between. Shellac is great because it drys fast, is durable and has an antique look I like. If you put the dowels in before finishing, it's much harder because you will have to paint and sand around all the little dowels. If you do it after it's a snap

Think I'm gonna go this route. Love the way it looks. Thanks!

I built this shelf a few years ago. Very simple concept. Since moving into a new home I have not rehung it as I am thinking on building a display for a mantle. Anyway, none are for sell and it would take a lot to make me even consider it.

Threw this together with some spare wood from the shop. Planed and sanded it down. It's ain't perfect by any means but I like the rustic kind of look it has. Thanks for all the help fellas. Now just gotta fill this thing up

Looks great! Just remember to let the finish fully cure beyond dry to the touch. It may take days to be safe. You don't want your trumpets sticking!

I made this one last year out of some padauk I came across. The picture was right after sanding and before the last coat of shellac. It was a fun little project.
