Title: Push pin kill thread
Post by: Old Gobbler on May 15, 2022, 09:57:33 PM
Guys I thought I would start a kill thread for turkeys killed with any make Pushpin , if any of you get something with any push pin you don't mind sharing post it up here !

IMO pushpins are the "sleeping dragon" of the turkey woods.. I've done calling on these that is beyond describing...(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/t456/oldgobbler3/IMG_20220409_102036722.jpg)
Killed this one at 6 in the afternoon ..I nearly got him the weekend before , he had a full cadre of hens with him constantly , I gave him a fast sharp cutting sequence from a Macassar and he lost his cool ...ran right in towing the flock behind him

I made several Macassar calls this spring , this call was a customers I "tested " hung onto it for a few days I had seller's remorse as usual ...the test was (successful)  ...I killed this eastern gobbler with the same fast cutting at 12:30 a pair ran right up ..sneak in quiet floor them with aggressive calling ...move on if nothing ...

I had to eventually chase of the second gobbler ..he kept pecking at his (gone) buddy

I usually wait for the birds to" do Thier thang" start gobbling on Thier own , a yelp or two ...cluck at them a whole bunch cause that's what the birds do around my neck of the woods ...except ...nothing , no gobbles , and I know they are in there , so at 9 am I busted out with a steady fighting rattle accompanied with fast cutting ... look who invited himself to the party ..a nice 3+ year Osceola gobbler ...

Both my birds this spring in Ohio and PA came in because of Shannon's Macassar Push button ...had lots of responses to the call as well when others wouldn't work (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220516/052dfa0204e666e727f0dfba12a829f9.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220516/00e2ec2812f6e05e0776649f5f38d0a7.jpg)

This was back in 2014. I've shot a bunch calling them in with a Knight and Hale Mossy Oak camo push pin model 150. I remember when push pin calls
were considered calls for a kid. I still laugh at those guys.

Here's one that fell victim to the soft clucks and purrs that OG builds into those pretty boxes. First bird with the new call.

A few clucks from the OG push pin and a few yelps from the Buckner trumpet done him in this morning. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230410/70ce41838ab2317a6e70e150e2faf38c.jpg)

I, too, got it done this morning with a SKOG  Pushpin! Osceola from Central Florida. Was the only call I played this morning...came in strutting and his gobbling spread like wildfire.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240317/dae03d64c18d394e58d70b0fe089e965.jpg)

This one was the local crime lord ...he was taken out in a brutal shooting , many witnesses...but nobody has come forth to make statements ...one witness did say they heard something there never heard before ...followed up by a bright flash and a cloud of feathers ...

The OG has been hunted 2x since I got it and is 2 for 2 now! It tagged me out last season within an hour or so of receiving it in the mail and tagged me out again this afternoon. Pure killer cluck machine!  I did pair it with a Sadler McGraw purr pot and he loved them both. The pot killed the first bird this season.

I haven't been able to hunt yet this year as I am recovering from foot surgery, so I thought I would repost this from last year. The bird was taken late in the season off of heavily hunted public land in Montana. The birds were so call shy that they just wouldn't come in to yelping. So I just walked the hills clucking on an OG Macassar ebony push-pin and finally got this bird to respond. He only gobbled twice initially then came in silently. I only clucked a few times after he gobbled and that was the ticket.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240418/5c642161e94a4f6d760d2d11188676d5.jpg)

Add one more to this kill thread. I called in 2 Friday morning in costa county Alabama. My friend shot 1 but we could not pull off a double. The OG push pin drive them nuts. So far this year I have called in 5 bigs on 4 hunts with gobbling turkeys. A few did not die because the young boys I have been taking could not make or get a shot. This call is so awesome. We had one gobbler come running so fast at us that it was near impossible to get a shot.

I took this two-year old bird using a combination of a Prudhomme tube call and an OG push-pin in Macassar ebony. I got the birds to start to come in with the tube call, then finished them with clucks from the push-pin. There's a thread with more details under the tube call topics, including some pictures from the day before the season opened when I called a gobbler in while sitting in the back of my car because I was unable to walk while recovering from foot surgery. I won't bore you with all the details again here. Anyway, another successful hunt with an OG push-pin.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240426/64c095e95945d7c29174320e18de88e2.jpg)
