Title: First hunt with the 410
Post by: Muzzy61 on April 12, 2022, 04:45:42 PM
Bought a Stevens 301 410 model to set up for my grandson. He should be old enough next year to give it a try. I have patterned it and was please with the results of the choke that came with it. I decided to take hunting this past weekend and see how it would perform if giving the opportunity.
Well it didn't disappoint, took this guy at 30 yards and he dropped like a sack of potatoes.  Fun little gun to hunt with.

Congrats on your 1st 4-tenner bird!

I hope to take a bird or 2 with my new 301 .410 in MO this Spring.  We can't use in IA until next Spring.

The only ammo I could find was some Fed 9.5s and luckily they are some bad medicine with the stock choke.

Congrats on a great looking turkey!
I have always been a 12 or 20 gauge person but due to rotator cuff surgery that failed I am having a reverse shoulder replacement surgery 13 days before the opener. My son got me a Stevens 410 to try. I put a Jebs XX Full choke on it with a Holosun Red Dot. I am a little reluctant to try it but I will be in the woods opening day one way or another.

I used Federal TSS  #9's
It patterned good to 40 yards, but was thinking I probably wouldn't shoot anything over 30 yards but after seeing the results at 30 yards don't think I'd be afraid to shoot one at 40.
