Youth week starts April 2nd here. I have 3 that still qualify for that week. Regular season starts April 9th here in NC. What about you guys.
Also how long is your season? Ours in 4 weeks, ends May 7th. Way too short for me.
Our season( North Florida) starts March 19th.
Virginia starts the 9th West Virginia the 19th. Both seasons run until middle or late May.
Maryland opens 4/18 closes 5/23. New Jersey where I do most of my Turkey hunting 4/25 to 5/27, but depends on how many permits I am able to buy, won A (first week) and E ( 4 Saturdays) tags through lottery, all unclaimed tags for each zone go on sale at the end of March.
April 18th-may 8th is season here. Sucks it's so short, but our population is bad low and hopefully itll help them rebound. I plan to travel and hit another state or 2
MN Season A starts April 13th and ends on the 19th. Season's B-E run subsequently in 7-day increments, while Season F runs from May 18th through the end of the month. Shotgun hunters are permitted to hunt one season (season choices are OTC in most zones), but if unsuccessful, you can legally hunt during Season F with any unfilled tag. I'll probably hunt Season A, weather permitting.

I'm in Virginia. I've got one maybe for youth/apprentice April 2 and then the season from April 9th - May 14th.
Here in Illinois there are 5 separate seasons, each anywhere from 5-7 days. You can get up to 3 tags and they only are good for one county. I have 2nd, 4th and 5th season tags, all for the same county (the one I live in).
2nd season opens up on April 9th.

Hello, I was just accepted as a member of your team so I'm a little behind here. The California season starts March 26th and runs to May 1st, we're allowed three toms, no hens unless she's bearded.

See that Muzzy is up this weekend!! Where are you heading too to put us on the board? Private or public?? Are you hunting areas where you have had sucess before?

Ok, right now I know I'm hunting on private the first day but after that it could change. I shot a really nice bird on public land last year with my son and I would like to go back there, we were R and G and pushing four toms up a pretty steep mountain side and they stayed just out of reach for about an eighth of a mile, we both were winded and breathing heavy when we were almost to the top, so we're standing there when the four toms looked down over the top of the ridge at us at about 40 yards. All shooters, I took the one on the right and dropped it, my son took one on the left, hit it but the three took off running with the wounded one going a little slower. We ran to the top and the birds went down into a small valley and were just about over the top of the next ridge. The wounded one was following at a distance from the other two. He shot again and hit it just as it was going over the top but it just kept going. He looked at me and I said get going.......he said I'm out of shells. My sons 40 but that's why I'm still the prepared parent. I lobbed three of my shells at him and he was loading as he ran, over the ridge he went. I waited and waited for a shot but nothing. Finally I saw him carrying the Tom back over the top, it had died about 10 feet on the other side and he must have run past it. It was a good day for us. The two we shot are in my avatar. Attached a picture of that bird and of me so you can see I'm no spring chicken. I didn't want to show a picture of myself until after I was on the team for that reason and also as you can see, I like Sitka....... :TooFunny:

:morning: yes Jeff I still have it, I bought it used probably 25 years ago or so. Browning Auto 5 in 20ga magnum, bought an additional 28" barrel with replaceable choke tubes for it for steel shot too. Used it up until last spring. I don't have a lot of pictures of the old days (pre cell phones when pictures had to be developed and were expensive) but this was my hunting out fit. I still have that vest too..........

grew up in the 60's hunting rabbits and birds, had my grandfathers sxs 12g. My father cut stock on it so I could shoulder better, still have , stock has crack in it otherwise I might use it 1 more time. Love upland bird hunting, had to put down my pointing lab 3 years ago, just dont have time to get another 1, miss it a lot.

As much as i love turkey hunting theres nothing better than hunting behind a good dog. It doesnt matter if its rabbits birds or bear i always enjoy myself when I'm in the company of a good hunting K9.

Season opens for me the second weekend in April. I hunt private and have a couple of birds hanging around. Planning on going to SD and WY at the end of April. That may change though.
I've got a pretty good bead on some birds on private. I saw 6 longbeards together the last day in December. Have been keeping tabs on them every couple weeks since. I was coyote hunting 2 sundays ago and heard 3 gobblers firing off back and forth for about 30 mins after daylight. Only trouble is its a smaller piece of private and they sometimes roost across a gravel road. It can be hard to call them across it if they dont pitch to my side out of the roost.
I'm going in blind in virginia. Have some friends that have hunted there and shared some info but I've never steeped foot on the property. I know i should have made a trip and scouted but it kind of adds to the excitement a little bit for me. Also I'm going to be visiting family in VA that weekend so its a pretty cheap adventure. If that weekend doesn't work out i will try some more familiar places later in the season.
Hillclimber, how serious of a coyote hunter?? Just getting started here, had a few show up a few years ago, now have a least 2 packs running around. Really messed up my bow hunting, just picked up IR scope, begging and pleating for a suppressor, wanted a thermal, got shot down, so far.
JeffC i'm amateur at best i do daytime hunts most of the time. I use it mainly as an excuse to get outside and take my gun for a walk. I have been interested in all the thermal and supressor but hard to justify the cost for something i ain't going to eat. I'm more successful at calling coons out of the barn than i am coyotes in but i have fun trying both. Also i figure any varmint i take out is possibly saved polt or fawn.
Muzzy I sure hope you got a boat, looks like more rain headed your way. Do the gators become a problem when you have this much rain? Ever run into a python?
Yep, Looks like some more rain tomorrow ( opening day), but then looks pretty decent the remainder of the week. Luckily I'm a little to far north for any pythons, but plenty of cotton mouths to tend with. As far as gators no problem with them when it's wet, but when it's dry they will walk from one water source to another.
I've been in a tree stand hunting and seen then walking through the palmetto flats within bow range.
Not sure what to expect tomorrow morning. With all this water the birds could be roosted anywhere and most of the normal strut areas are under water.

So Jersey was good to me this year, got all the tags I wanted, so legally I can take 6 Toms in Jersey and 2 in Maryland. I will be lucky and happy to harvest 3, having 6 tags in Jersey lets me hunt entire season. Going back to a different zone that I hunted last year for the 1st time, know there should be some mature birds there, 17 more days....

Live in Maryland, grew up in South Jersey, right across river from Philadelphia. Hunt Southern Jersey, better population then here in MD, have to drive 1 to 2 hours to Jersey or Maryland to hunt, so go where there's more birds. Growing up in Jersey, there wasn't even a turkey season, now have to pay 135.00 for non-resident license plus 22 per tag.

HOLY COW!! Thats crazy. We hunted zone 10 when we lived up there, killed tons of swamp birds over the years.
Zone 10 , so basically your a New Yorker, :TooFunny: never hunted above Zone 12 areas. I always said I grew up in Phila, but the clean side :toothy12:
