So I’m pondering if call making is something I want to get into down the road. Thinking about the basic equipment needed for making pot calls and strikers. Is the same lathe used for strikers and pots? I imagine a band saw is needed. Cutting tools. A grinder and a belt sander. I’m just shooting from the hip.

Lathe,Band saw, Drill press, something to sharpen your tools will get you by.

The lathe is the cheap part.

What lathe is everyone using?

I've just started on call making, I'm almost through with call #3 so I'm a real novice at it. I use a Jet mini lathe, my drill press and my band saw the get the blanks trimmed down. I use my grinder to keep the turning tools sharp, along with a sharpening jig.
There are methods to do it without a lathe but I haven't researched them. I have turned some strikers but I kind of want to try to hand carve a couple. I think if done right, they would be cool looking.

When I first started years ago, I didn't have a lathe. I designed a jig and used my router, which in time, I built my own router table and adapted the design to it. Then upgraded that to an Incra Lift. Used it for several years before I saved up enough and bought a Jet lathe. Which I still use today
