Title: Ithaca 37 followed me home
Post by: Jc69 on August 04, 2021, 02:22:24 PM
Didn't really need another shotgun, but 5 or 6 years ago, I was really looking for an Ithaca 37 locally and just never came across the right one.  Ended up picking up an old Wingmaster at the time and lost interest in Ithacas.  I decided I was going to find an old gun to try to learn to restore on for a summer project and had decided to go back and pick up an old Mossberg 500 and they just happened to have an Ithaca 37 for $300 bucks in very nice condition, that doesn't need any restoration work.  To top it off, It has a full choke and a 24 inch barrel.  From what I can tell, I think it is a deluxe and has the non-corncob forend, I think they call it a Beavertail  and it was made in 1963.  I probably won't use it as my designated turkey getter and I haven't patterned it yet, but if it out-patterns my other guns, I'll take it hunting.
Anyone on here using an older 37??

Great find! I ran across one several years ago and left it sitting on the rack because it was a 12 gauge & I was looking at 20's. I kick myself in the butt every time I think about leaving the store without it.

I'll attempt a picture.  I think it is the deluxe?? Not sure, but most I see have the corncob forend and I found a pic of a deluxe that has a forend identical to this one.  I think It has a replacement butt pad that is in need of replacement, so I'll probably put a red original one on it.

Thanks!  I had been in the gunshop a week before and they had an old Mossberg 500 that was rough and overpriced( in my opinion) that was $350.  I was going to try to talk them down and by the Mossberg for a project and they happened to have the Ithaca on consignment for $300, and I've always wanted one.

Good looking gun. I have 3 Ithaca's. 1 old and 2 new. If I didn't have my Mossberg 835, they would be my dedicated turkey gun. Would have no issue what so ever taking to the woods. Good luck.

Congrats, that is a fine shotgun....I have a late 1960's Ithaca 20 gauge pump that I used as a kid, shot a ton of birds with that gun, love it to this day. They are fantastic pump guns, my favorites for sure.
