Which route and why? Looking to get one of my guns done and trying to decide.

Ive yet to see a painted gun look as good as a dipped . Dipped every time for me.
If you've got the money get it dipped holds up better. Looks great
I will say I have and use both as I am an old guy so we had to paint our guns back in the day! I far prefer dipped as they look perfect BUT a properly prepped rattle can gun can look pretty darn good. They guys here have posted a few over the years that are awesome. Prep, attention to detail, a few light coats with solid curing time between and a final clear coat to protect it will last you years. This is one I did last winter......

You are too kind! I have ZERO art skill....so this is a stencil kit I found on Amazon and Krylon Camo paint colors. The hardest part is taping and cleaning all the surfaces for the best adhesion possible.
Well that and waiting for the paint to fully dry between coats as well as the same for curing time for the clear coat. Honestly if you take away the down time...maybe 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

I like paint myself, you can make it look exactly how you want, it's cheap and easily touched up, or changed if you get bored with the look. Nice job Duckdiggler, that looks great!

Thank you for the compliments guys....trust me...this is way easier than it looks. The magic is in the prep, the stencil and lightest color on the bottom to darkest on top. Easy-Peasy!

You did a great job on that gun.I have painted 3 and I like one,kind of hate another and try not to look at the 3rd :drool:
I like "real" camo on a turkey shotgun and I know It means no difference whatsoever. If I had any artistic talent than I may change my mind.
Painted for me.. works well and holds up decent. I have a few that have been dipped, but I'm just as happy when I pull the trigger on a painted gun.
Money no issue? Dip!
However I've painted my 870 2 or 3 times. LOL
Also for $30 you can get a Mossy Oak wrap. their are youtube video's on how to install
