Title: Full choke patterns
Post by: Countrylivinnc on February 14, 2021, 07:50:43 PM
Let's see some patterns from just your regular full chokes. How many here shoot the chokes that came with their gun?

Hell my wife shoots a 20ga single shot fixed modified with TSS #9s. It's good 30yds and under. I'll see if I can find one of her 30yd patterns tomorrow and post it.

yes and 222 in the 10 and with FedHW7 it does 110-120
TSS was the older 1000fps loads less recoil they had the first year for Fed tss

Yeah, this ones a fixed modified. Hell of a 30yd gun, though, and plus she just loves it. It's the one she's most comfortable shooting so we just set limits and follow them.

Probably will not get many pics.
What did you have a question about? Which gun, fixed chokes or factory chokes and with what type of loads? 12 gauge or any others.

I have a Beretta A-400 Xplor. Going to use the factory choke this year. Have some 3in Federal #7 heavyweight but the choke says lead only. Don't want to mess up a 800 dollar barrel so need to stay with lead or shoot a modified choke with the heavyweight.

So you don't have a full choke? Can not buy a new turkey choke?

I have a full and extra full but don't think I can shoot the heavyweight through it.

I don't see why not? But you could send Sumtoy on here a pm. He works with a lot of guns, loads and chokes.

You wouldn't damage the barrel, but most chokes marked lead only are marked lead only in reference to steel. I'm unsure how that would work out with something like tungsten, but I'd say you'd be fine (likely due to the small shot size related to those tungsten/tungsten alloy loads). Worth asking an expert like SumToy , though, for sure. Either way, you might screw up a choke but you won't screw up the barrel.

Somtoy's an excellent choice, could also stick an extended turkey choke from Truloc or Carlsons in your gun.  won't hurt your barrel or choke

This is the reply from Beretta on weather or not I could shoot Federal Heavyweight through factory chokes.

Thank you for contacting Beretta Technical Services.

Yes, Federal Heavyweight ammunition is safe to shoot through full and extra full chokes without damage.

I just figured out that a Ithaca 51 I picked up at an auction is a full choke. Thinking about spending some time patterning it.
