They can do the job most likely out to 40, but for the price I would probably shoot a cheaper turkey load.  They seem to give me a more even pattern than pheasant shells.  I tried them through an old 20 gauge single shot (2 3/4") with factory full and some other pheasant shells through that and my 12 and all were more erratic it seemed than turkey loads, or even just high brass game loads for that matter.  I don't know if it is the velocity or what that does it.

Prairie Storm contains some of Federal's Flitestopper pellets. They have a ridge around the centerline, to purportedly produce more trauma. That may be, if they hit the bird. They are also the pellet that Federal puts in Third Degree to open the pattern. The last thing a 20 ga needs is some of the payload opening early and not staying in the pattern. There are better options out there.

That would be why then.  I wouldn't trust that shell unless I was hunting close quarters.

Have you ever tried the Fiocchi Golden Pheasants?  I've used both in 12 and 20ga with #5 or #6, 3'' shells.  They're damn good for the price.  I bought mine years ago and dry boxed them.  I think I paid around $18 a box. I use a Trulock precision Hunter in my Franchi and a ported jellyhead in my Browning.  Pretty damaging to anything within 40 yards.
