I would like to hear fm those who use bows to hunt turkeys. What broadheads do you use? I may or may not use a bow for spring turkey but in Tn, I can hunt turkey in deer archery season. Thanks Ray
If you have a lot of kenetic energy with your bow use open-ups.If you don't use fixed blade heads.
if i bow hunt for them i will use my broadheads i use for deer hunting. rage 2 blades
If I bow hunt for them this yr I'll use my recurve with Simmons broadheads.

Have used both Rage 2 blade expandables and Muzzy mx-3......both did the job but the rage was wicked.....
Another vote for the Rage 2 blade.
Regardless of what we use, you also need to check with your state game laws. Not every state is the same.

:agreed:
RAGE 2 blade, it opens them up nicely!
I use the Gobbler Guillotines most of the time but also use the NAP Spitfire Gobbler Getters.
I agree with the Rage 2 blade. They work real well.
Rage 2 blade for anything you want to kill is a great choice!
This past year was the first year I used Rage 2 blades and they worked fantastic even on a very bad neckshot on a deflected arrow.Shot at a deer at about 40 TSS and didn't see a bush that was in line with the deer,,arrow deflected from the bush into the deers neck.Rage 2 blades leave some lethal entry and exit holes.
Kdog
I use my deer heads. 100 g rocky mtn snypers in the compound and 100 g nap thunderheads in the crossbow.
Magnus Bullhead. :z-guntootsmiley:
Mainly Rocket Sledgehammers. Did carry Magnus bullheads this year but didn't get an opportunity to try them. Maybe next year.

I use the same Slick Trick Mag 100s that I use for deeer hunting. They fly well and, delivered into the vitals" do the "trick". Accuracy is the most important; broadhead is secondary.
Magnus Snuffers here.
Another for Rage 2 blades
Has anyone ever used G5 Montecs for turks? I've harvested a few deer using their 100 grain Montec CS. If others have found them to be less effective on turkeys, then I would look in to some other options.
Thanks,
Eric
Pretty much any broadhead will work, especially a large cut expandable. Like said above shot placement is more important. When I did bowhunt turkeys, I used Rocket Stricknine heads. The blades don't hold up well, but they kill turkeys. In my opinion, you want to "thump" a turkey when using a bow. You want the bird to absorb all the energy from the arrow....you don't want the arrow just zipping through it. A lot of people that bowhunt them will turn the weight down on the bow and in combination with the big cut expandable get that "thump".

I've heard that as well. I really don't want to make any changes in my draw weight (which would also create a need to move pins). The Montec CS's have zipped through deer for me, but deer aren't covered in feathers and wing bones! That's why I was hoping someone might have experience with Montecs on Toms.

I wonder what the difference is between the turkey and deer/big game heads? I hope its more than just what the packaging says.

From what I can see, the only difference is the turkey head has 2 1/4" cut compared to the 2" of the regular/deer head.
Rage is coming out with all new heads for this fall so it might just be a marketing ploy to get guys buying the older type of broadhead before they go out and buy the new one a few months later. The new broadheads are doing away with the annoying O-ring and going with a locking system the resembles the G5. That said, I will shoot the rage 3 blade, although I have an old 2 blade that a buddy shot a deer with last year and I may use it since I have never used the 2 blade. I have never been impressed with the two blades when comparing blood trails and entrance/exit wounds to the 3 blade when used on whitetails.

I like the nap 2 blade bloodrunners if your huntn turkeys while deer hunting. If your just goin for the turkeys, I would say the magnus bullhead 125grain. Nothn like seeing a head go flying
throughthe air. If shoothing the bullheads go with a full length arrow
I'll say that I've used the Rage 2 blade and when they are hit right all goes well. All but one have run off. I've only lost a couple of birds, but I hate chasing them. With that said I'm with Dan and going to the Magnus Bullhead. New arrows, Victory V-6 300's, 75-90 #. 4" feathers. Had to paper tune and re- site in. All in one day...today. And here is the results at 15 yards. I'm going for DRT. Dead Right There.

I like Magnus Bullheads D.O.C. :newmascot:
I use the muzzy mx4 on deer and turkey. They do a great job on both, it's hard to beat the muzzy been around a long time.
