Pat McManus, the humor writer for Outdoor Life, once said if buy a piece of hunting equipment that you like you had better go buy 3 more because as soon as they find out it works they'll stop making it. I find that funny and spot on in some situations.
What equipment etc have you bought that you wished they still made exactly as it was originally?
All mesh hunting gloves. Great for using calls. I think cotton tends to muffle the sound. Thanks to Ebay I found some being sold due to an old sporting goods store in Wisconsin closing. I bought three pair!
Was really fond of the old advantage timber camo pattern. A lot of guns have skimped in quality compared to what they used to be. Don't get me started on diaphram calls that have been discontinued.

They always change something that's why I always buy in bulk when I can depending on what it is .like gloves, hats,ammo, fishing lures.They may be slightly different in ways,like colors and weights,but if I figure out what I like I will buy as much of it as possible. I bet I have 200 of one crankbait that I like to fish all in the same color. I also have deer slugs And muzzleloader bullets that I doubt if I or my kids will ever run out.I'm a trapper also and they do the same things with that stuff as well.

I had a cotton face mask that i loved........loved it so much I bought several. Over the years they wore out and got lost.
Actual hunting magazines. Not sales brochures. Where stories were told and the writer could actually write. They don't make hunters like they used to come to think of it. Where men would actually hunt and endure bad weather, weren't scared to drag a deer a couple miles, walk for hours and actually enjoy the process. Nowadays it's all electric buggies and shooting shacks, private game farms and cry when you don't kill something. I miss the smell of trails end and oiled leather mixed with the smell of my grandma's cinnamon rolls coming out of the oven as grandad got ready for opening day of deer season. I miss the days of just hanging the deer in a tree out in the yard and just the overall sense of excitement and wonder I had as a child experiencing these things. When it was all new to me and I could only daydream about when I could finally go.
Some of it is my fault. Time has jaded me to a point. I have killed plenty of game in 22 years. The edge has kind of been worn off. I still love hunting,mainly turkeys but it just ain't the same as when I was itching to get a gun in my hands and be allowed to go. I really believe most hunters are born that way. I am a lot more like my grandad than my dad. I have always been drawn to the woods and have a rambling spirit when it comes to hunting. Always something to see over the next hill. My grandad has noticed it as well. One of the biggest compliments he gave me was when he came over earlier than was expected for a family gathering one spring a few years ago. I came in from turkey hunting and he came out to look at the bird and he put his hand on my shoulder as we were walking back and said "my grandson the turkey hunter". "I never really cared to hunt turkeys that much myself but I knew a couple of them and they were all good men and darned good hunters." From an old Irishman that doesn't express his feelings much I don't think it could get much better than that.

I don't care what anyone shoots if a fork horn makes you happy that's great.

We plant food plots and put out special minerals to help the deer with ( CWD ) disease and yes we put out trail cam's around our food plots and such. It not only gives us a number or count of our deer, but it helps us know how many predators we have in the area. We decide what deer we want to take out also and we don't hold that you have to just kill a 8 point. We take what we all decide needed in keep our deer health. Doe's and buck big or small.. And i don't care how many cam's you have out your not going to get pictures of all the deer in your area as the rut kick's in...just opinion on what we do...agree i don't care what anyone kills or how they hunt..just be safe...

I do some of the stuff that you and I both mentioned. I am not trying to knock anyone. I just see a lot of 12 and 13 year old kids that think they have to be a trophy hunter before they have even harvested a deer. I blame the big hunting shows on T.V. for that. I do also know that the T.V. shows have helped our outdoor sports tremendously by getting our younger generations involved in hunting and fishing and trapping.And also spreading the word and our views on gun control. I just miss some of the simpler times I'm not hating on anyone and sorry if I offended anyone

This. All I know is it came from wing supply. I think it was called "the bag" or something like that. It's a half mask that is intended to be pulled over your cap and it's a see through mesh. I've had mine for a good 15 years and it's in rough shape.

Buckwing made a turkey seat when those first came out that had adjustable legs. was perfect for long sits on steep, uneven terrain. Only draw back to it being made from aluminum was its durability, the thing was very light and fit in my vest perfect. I did everything to fix mine when one of the leg corners sheared, JB weld, duct tape, electric tape. Finally scrapped it but wish I had bought 10 of them. I keep looking on ebay to see if I come across one.

Wish I'd bought a couple of extras.
Ithaca Model 37R Featherweight 12 gauge. They had a solid (not vented) rib down the barrel and the receiver was milled from a solid block of steel. Bottom eject pump that's great for left hand shots, like me.
Mine was stolen when my house was broken into 30 years ago.
Delta turkey decoys. Collapsible, light, durable, & cost less than $25 each (before plastic & rubber became SO valuable, like it is today).
They were sold by H.S. Strut in the 90's. I have 3 of them that still work great.

Amen on the 300 straight 6. Had one in my first truck and it was a beast. If it needed worked on, me and 3 other full size guys could get under the hood and do whatever was needed, no computers - just hand tools. I bought a new truck and gave that one to my younger brother. It finally threw a rod through the block around 200,000 miles. He had to shut the engine off after it threw the rod - she just wouldn't quit!
