Made my first Ipe trumpet recently, wanted to see how it sounded with soft talk. I am playing this thing very lightly, just barely getting sound out of the bell(except for 1 little run), the recorder is approx 15 yards away. I may try a little shorter MP and record again.

Appreciate the reply, I am looking forward to hunting with this one this year. Also going to record some other wood species over the next few weeks.

Here is a huge piece of Ipe I have in the humidity controlled room, still need to cut it into smaller blanks for additional air drying. This will last me a while ;D

Yeah, stupid big, but it was too good of a deal to pass up. I will pass it on to my boys....
I was on a waiting list from another trumpet call maker and the wood is Ipe
Surprising when he played it and when I received it that call actually has a very distinct
Raspy sound .............

I like the tone from Ipe, I was comparing it to some ABW trumpets, each is unique in a good way.
I really like that Ipe. Dont say it has a different sound than other trumpets because I have a post where Some posted that the wood type is just cosmetic. Also was said mouthpiece and internals were the only varables that influence the sound. I disagree to a degree. I think that all things , no matter how small , influence the sound. That trumpet sounds great.

Thanks, yeah I really like the Ipe too, it is going with me opening weekend. For what it is worth, I happen to agree with you that everything influences tone....internals, shape, length, thickness of wood at certain points, MP, bell work, and yes, wood species.
