Title: Benelli Nova 24" IC .675 with Apex #9
Post by: Spark352 on February 24, 2022, 11:20:56 AM
Recently purchased a 24" barrel as a dedicated turkey barrel for my Nova. The barrel is a Carlson replacement. Mounted a Meadow Creek mount and a Holoson 507c on the rib. The pattern below is a 20 and 40yd shot using 3" 2.25oz #9 shot Apex with an Indian Creek .675 choke. The combo was pretty mind-blowing coming from shooting #5 WLBXR. I went with the IC .675 thinking it would be a little more open. I'm actually surprised at how tight these shots are. I need to try the factory full and see if I can get a less dense pattern.

It's definitely putting them in there.

It's a good tight pattern. Almost wish it was a bit more open. Going to try the factory full here soon. That 20yd isn't leaving much wiggle room.

I think that's a good looking pattern even at 20yds. POI comes down into the center of that 10" circle and you're looking at a good, even 8" pattern. That's a fuzz tight but not much at that range. Wouldn't want to sacrifice widening what you've got at 40 to gain much at 20. At that closer range just drop POA on the live bird to first feathers like the true center of that target and there won't be as much movement as the head. With that 507 he's toast.

Solid advice. Wouldn't have thought about that but makes a lot of sense.

Wouldn't change a thing. If you open it up more, you'll get more pellets in the breast meat. With the Holosun, that's money..

Awesome pattern. Just try to shoot further out than 20 so you don't walk back to the truck with the headless Tom. I have had that happen before and a turkey just doesn't look right with no head.

I always try to set up with my shots around 30yds to give myself a little wiggle room. I've missed some shots up really close and there's no worse feeling haha. Super confident in this setup but it's been hard for me to put down the 410 this year. I'll have to get it in the woods here soon.

You are definitely well armed with that set up. You will kill a lot of birds with that gun. Good luck and thanks for sharing your results.

Man you got me thinking about getting a shorter barrel for my Nova. Meat grinder of a pattern, good luck!

Had my 24" Supernova Steadygrip gun's barrel cut to around 20" and run same choke and get awesome patterns. Now if I could just get the trigger a little lighter I would love it.
