Title: Looking to set up a 28 gauge. Open to suggestions

Any suggestions welcome. Prefer as light weight as possible. Open to singles, doubles, or autos. Just curious to see what everyone recommends

I would highly recommend a Mossberg International SA-28. I've hunted this gun for two years and have killed multiple gobblers with it. I have the youth model and shoot TSS thru an Indian Creek choke.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220603/c2aa35a45a9848cf87a855c338455a78.jpg)

If you're interested in a 5.25 pound side by side, Doc Holladay on here is an excellent source.  He has set up many and helped me out.  My 28 is a CZ Bobwhite with Skinner express sights (peep).  The barrels were cerakoted Sig grey.  The left barrel is choked XF shooting my handload (data from Hal) of 1 5/8 oz of 9.5 TSS out to 40.  The right barrel is choked IC shooting my handload (also from Hal) of 1 1/8 oz of 10 TSS for shots 25 yards and in.  Both chokes are Trulock.  What I like is one safety with the choice of two triggers, depending on the range.  This combo flat out rolls birds.  PM me with your cell if you want to see some pics.  I enjoy a project.  Good luck.

A 5.25 pound side by side definitely interests me. Not sure I would like the peep sights though. Being a turkey only gun though I'm sure I could have a red dot mounted somehow

Certainly other options for sights, Truglo products for example.  The aperture of the peep is actually pretty big and I like the brass bead front sight.  Again, I enjoy tinkering around.  Whatever you decide on, the 28, when loaded right, flat out kills turkeys.

Another vote for the Sa-28. The wife and I both shoot them with TSS and love them. Pattern on the board and field proven. I wont ever change this setup untill they make a better shot, lol.

What chokes are you guys running in your 28's? I ordered a TriStar Viper G2 28ga I'm going to setup.

Trulocks are the only thing I've used.  I'd look into Sumtoy if I were shooting the SA-28 or the Tristar.

Indian Creek .520, .525 shoots well also.

What's the true weight of the SA-28?

I have the full size/ wooden stock with dead ringer sights and sling studs and a sling installed. It weighs 6 pounds and 3 ounces unloaded. So loaded with 3 1.5 oz loads it is almost exactly 6.5 pounds

Seems like the tristar viper g2 silver comes in at 5.2 lbs. I wonder if that is the best way to go for light weight and under $750. Might have to look into it.

I shoot an Indian Creek .525 in my SA-28. The youth model with the added extended choke, sling suds and a slip on recoil pad to extend LOP weighs in at 5.8 lbs.

Another vote for the SA-28.  I put a meadow creek mount, Swampfox Kingslayer, and TriStar pistol grip on mine and it's an absolute dream.  Currently has a TruLock .520 in it, but I'm getting ready to send my barrel to Indian Creek to have a .525 made.   Shooting FoxTrot Cherry Bombs.   I'll be likely selling my almost new Franchi Affinity Turkey 20ga, because this gun immediately took the top spot as my primary turkey gun.

Where did you order the grip from?

Good looking guns! Are those Tristar pistol grips? What's the LOP on them?
