Title: Book suggestions
Post by: BB30 on February 02, 2019, 05:19:42 PM
Been discussed at length on here but was looking for some ideas.

Anyone got a recommendation on books similar to east of the slash and the old pro turkey hunter? I've also read the tenth legion and a couple others.

I really liked the story telling of old pro and east of the slash.

Also, any other books out there based in Mississippi? Being from Mississippi it's enjoyable reading about old timers in my neck of the woods.

Thanks!

No need to apologize. There are always tips and strategies within the pages of the books you mentioned.

"One Man Game" & "America Wild Turkeys & Mongrel Dogs"  by Kenny Morgan are two great books I'd recommend.

Also anything by Col Tom Kelly.

You have hit the highlights of my readings.  Archive.org has a lot of books on turkeys and turkey hunting that you can checkout and read online.  Some are very hard to find like The American Wild Turkey.

I really enjoyed Somewhere Along The Way by Andy Johnson This is the review I wrote about it on Amazon

I have severe ADD/ADHD so though I love to read it is seldom I find anything that can hold my attention all the way through and this book did just that. It is well written, easy to read, not somebody trying to tell you how wonderful they are, just somebody sharing their memories like you would expect around a campfire. I also enjoyed the reverence shown to the Lord and all his creation without going overboard and turning it into a religious book.

The way he tells a story makes it easy to picture where he is at and what he was feeling when he was there. I hope he comes out with another book.

Oh I have past the book on to a friend and he has passed it onto his son and they have also really enjoyed it.

I read Illumination in the Flatwoods and enjoyed it very much.  A guy told me about a Tube video that is that book.  I watched it last night just to see.  It was close to the book.  The title is:  My Life as a Turkey,  runs about an hour.

Get Doc's second book while you are at it.  I just read both of them for the second time.
Currently reading Practical Turkey Hunting Strategies by Ray Eye.  More of a how to book but I'm reading it anyway.

Now I'm reading a VERY good turkey hunting book.
It's The American Wild Turkey Hunting Tactics and Techniques by  John McDaniel.
I bought it used and just ordered another book by him.  Worth looking for.
