Down here in southern bama the for the last 5 years or so our turkey #'s have declined so much that it is hard to hunt with a gun much less with a bow. I have 1 hunting lease I'm in that I didn't hear but 5 vocal birds on last year and its 3000 acres about 2500 acres of good turkey woods the rest is 7 year old super thick pine plantations. So I killed one on that lease and didn't even think about another. Last day of season there was 3 left. It's hard to bow hunt turkey's when there's no more turkeys than that on that much land.

I'm just ready to chase them this year. I bought a 20ga 870 to try I'm gonna try to rig up for turkey. The receiver is not tapped but I'm thinking about tapping it myself. That is if the poi is not at poa with the bead. It's the parkerized finish with wood stock. It looks like a brand new gun, I gave $175 for it used. But I'm thinking about painting it using the sea sponge technique. If I do I will put the progress on here. Just trying to figure out what she'll combo I wanna try. As of now I will be using the federal heavy weights.

It's the gun in the top of the pic. I bought them all a few days apart. The other 2 are a 1957 Belgium made A5 30" full choke and a 1979 BPS with a 32" full choke.

Me too. I've been asking friends of mine that I know don't hunt for turkey rights on their land in exchange for helping them bush hog, grade roads and plant food plots. It's working out. I've probably scored around 1000 acres so far. It might not have a turkey on it. Guess I'll find out soon

That's a lot of acres just got 40 more simply by repairing the fence for the owner counted 30 poults so far just hope they make it and some big birds just in couple days I was making repairs in late November

This is my 870 20 ga 21" youth I am gonna use this year. I am gonna shoot it and make sure poa is poi. If not I will have to drill and tap it for a ff3. It was wood finish. I sanded it down and painted it. It's a lot better than the shinny finish it had.

They are predicting a good hatch last spring so hopefully the numbers will bounce back a little. I dont mind hearing a few dozen jakes in the mornings. No better sound on earth. Yea the older birds will be tough to find but still cant wait.
I didn't count holes. But this was at 35 yards with turkey thug 3" 1.25oz. #5's I will be shooting the 3" heavyweight 7 but this didn't look to bad for lead 5's out of a 20.

hadnt cruised by this site for a while, but i am definitely gettin fired up for our second season
looks like we got a good core group of turkey slayers confirmed to be comin back for year 2
got my first 2015 tag in the mail today, have applied for no. 2 and lookin forward to season opener april 13 :funnyturkey:
