I cut mine off with a pair of limb loppers or a hack saw

I second the link above.  Used a sawzall to cut them off.  Minus the boiling, it's basically the same way I did it and it came out great.  It leaves a nice hole to string them up or do whatever you want.  I personally wouldn't recommend leaving them in the peroxide overnight.  I have read that it can soak up into the spur, and I think it happened to mine.  The bottom half of the spur itself is lighter than it was and kind of flaking on the outside.

Does anybody know of a way to maybe bring back the color or just kind of recondition the outside?  I didn't know if something like a furniture polish (Old English) might bring the color back some or at least "hydrate" the outside to look a little better.

I use a hacksaw to cut them off, a nail to punch out the marrow, then bury them in 20 Mule Team Borax for two or three weeks, take them out, rinse them and when dry, I apply two or three coats of neutral shoe polish.

I cut the spurs off with a hacksaw, take a pocket knife and peel off the skin, scrape off any loose marrow, then take a nail & push out the marrow in the leg. I dont soak or boil them in anything. It takes about 15- 20 min per spur.

Hacksaw them, clear the marrow with a cotton swab, trim the edges with a pair of scissors and string them up with leather strap and wooden beads.  No problems unless you don't let them air dry out enough.  You can tell they are ready for the hacksaw when you can't move the toes without some serious effort.  The longer they dry, the better the scale color will appear once cut, too.

i use a hack saw or a small jigsaw and cut above and below the spur.then i take a small dia rod and push marrow out of leg rather than letting it rot.whether,i leave the leg intact or cut them off, i spray them with an oilbased clearcoat to preserve.the legs with beard between them makes a good display on a board.
